 Re: Drags v Bennaton
Tony Good post on stats. I think you should start a new thread with these stats. I don't think it fits on this thread.

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
was an aside to a comment in this stream BR. I am updating stats today and a more comprehensive nature. I will post themseparately Scarlets certainly seem to be turning around some important following and therein the potential to attract more investment and sponsorship and THAT would be the big impetus.

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
Jackman inherited the difficulties, that doesn't make him the answer though, it just means as yet he is not the cause of the "problems". If indeed there is a fundamental problem other than unrealistic expectation.
It appears many feel they are signing better players than the players they have, but they need to sign better players than the players they are playing against. A month or so back there was a thread on hear claiming the Dragons had "turned the corner".

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
The Dragons' recruitment looks much better than that of any of the other regions so far. The most important signing could actually be Rhodri Williams at 9, because for all that Moriarty and Hibbard are the headlines, the Dragons already had Dee at hooker and a half-decent back row, wheras all their 9s are poor. In that context Williams is a real acquisiton. It is a slight concern to me that they've not made more recruitments in positions of weakness. Prior to this season they really needed locks, props and half-backs; Rhodri Williams is the only proven recruit they've made in those areas (Bevington is still unconfirmed). For all that they've signed two centres and a fullback, it's not clear how much they really needed them, e.g. Sage and Wellington don't look better than Adam Warren or Sam Beard and certainly don't look better than Tyler Morgan or Jack Dixon.

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
Yes the point about signing players who are better than the opposition neatly sums up the issues facing the dragons The players signed are definitely an improvement but will signing a player who spent most of his career outside the regional level really solve a issue at 10

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
Think the props and lock thing is actually a bit of a red herring. They scrumage ok and have a decent driving lineout. Granted LH is ropey and there is no depth - but there is a lack of depth across the squad

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
TH perhaps - between Harris, Fairbrother and Brown they're alright (I don't rate Nicky Thomas and hope he isn't signed permanently). But LH is very poor as you say. Agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing Tovey back (Edinburgh are releasing him), although best would be a decent SH fly-half. There are plenty of good Welsh flyhalves at the other regions so it's not a problem for the national side if one of the regions has an NWQ there. Henson isn't going to last forever and can't play every game.

 Re: Drags v Bennaton
When Jackman joined he said that he turned down money to invest in the squad and said to wait a season to find out if the players should remain. This automatically gives him an extra season in his job. If he failed with a squad he had chosen they'd get rid of him earlier. Smart move!

This still cracks me up. It was obvious to anyone that Jackman was nothing more a big gob.
