I think short term ie current selection is important. It’s what gives wales the best chance of winning at the moment and keeping up interest

Thinking over wider implications and change in approach is also necessary but change like this can be slow. As Keynes said in the long run we are all dead

I think you'd agree that the kind of change needed is not down to a change of strategy in the short term, but a change of approach in the long term. Hendry and Hanson had limited success with Wales. Parkes has been a mainstay of the Welsh team, but was nothing out of the ordinary in his NZ. TF at 8 is the only player likely to make the NZ team. Their game loses excellent players due to the lure of big oney but the production line carries on.

Strategy, approach or how about vision.
The meaning of the words depends on who's reading them. The WRU don't seem to understand any of them.

Yes all of us regardless.
However there's a Keyes quote that's more specific and fit's rugby in Cymru perfectly:-

The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.

or, be it somewhat bastardised Keynes quote ...

It is the long term strategy that will in practice come in for the most criticism. For it is the essence of this behaviour that it should be eccentric, unconventional and rash in the eyes of the average opinion. If it is successful, that will only confirm the general belief in his rashness; and if in the short run it is unsuccessful, which is very likely, it will not receive much mercy. Worldly wisdom teaches that it is better for reputation to fail conventionally than to succeed unconventionally.

I came across this quote about rugby coaching which is in line ....

Best Coaches achieve best of breed, great Coaches innovate.
