Post Should there be a TMO for the TMO?
From how I saw it the TMO got it wrong.
Am I alone in thinking that the decision seemed to be reached pretty quickly?
I would have expected a whole load more slow mo and freeze framing.
An example that comes to mind is the forensic examination of a foot-in-touch situation involving an England back in a previous World Cup (against Australia, I think).
I'm sure the TMO here meant well, is a decent bloke and did his honest best.
But, in comparison with that in-depth example I've cited, well...
I think England were marginally the better team (though no big deal), and that our (Welsh) tactics and execution were poor.
I'm not sure we had the right players in the right positions to begin with, either.
I'm also not keen on Patchell's way of carrying the ball cupped in one hand. (Not that he's the only player who does this.)

There should be more regulation on what the ref asks.

With identical footage, can I ward the try, can you see any reason why I can not award the try, check the grounding etc can give different answers for exactly the same event. Perhaps there should be no question, just a decision to a set of rules the same for each time.

Agreed, I think.

The breadth of questions is ridiculous, but in this case, the tmo made the wrong call

TMOs were brought in for tight calls, since they came in its been hit and miss, sometimes they get it right sometimes they don't, with this being the case, what is the point in having them, wouldn't it be better to go back to the way it was? at least now the ref has the big screen if he has any doubts, who needs a man in a little box to see what the ref can see himself. In a lot of games the ref seems to make the call himself once he's seen it on the big screen anyway.
Get rid of TMO I say, waste of time, and far from foolproof.

No and we need to stop complaining about referees.

Every team in the world gets decisions that go their way or go against them.

If we start bitching about everyone we will end up like football.

In the past we have had decision go our way that have resulted in tries for us and surprisingly everyone bitching now keeps their mouths shut.

You can only complain about the ref if you also complain about wrong decisions going our way aswell

I think there should be a TMO for the TMO, the latter being wired to a 12v battery and the former having a switch to apply the current should the TMO make a wrong decision.
