Post Principality Stadium pitch.
It looked in poor shape, wasn't it just relaid before the autumn series? it looked as bad as it did during the pallet years.

How odd, I made jokes about the pitch recently and I was thoroughly put in my place by the posters here.

And now its shit. Can spend hundreds of millions on a special roof - can't grow grass.

That's not about the pitch mate.
It's just your not very funny ;)

I think we spent something like 75 million on the stadium.
(Most of which we have already paid off)
Slightly better return than the 700 million spent on Wembley.

The pitch seemed to play well but did look unusually tatty.

That is the problem though. Because of the roof, the light can't get in. They did seem to sort it a few years ago, using a hybrid or something. The pitch looked crap on the weekend but it certainly held together better than it had done in the past.

Doesn't the roof open? Surely that'd be a revolutionary way of getting light on the pitch.

It does but to accomodate the retractable roof, the permanent sections of the roof block quite a bit of the light.

Either way, the pitch didn't look good and given how much money they have spent on it ovet the years, it clearly isn't a simple solution.

As someone mentioned, maybe the boxing added to it. Normally the pitch gets better throughout a series.

As the RFU Chief Exec told the RFU told the NZRFU ... bugger off and build some decent sized stadiums yourself :D

Poky little stadiums and can't make enough money ...

I guess they forgot to take into account the orbit of the sun when designed...or has it changed :P :D

We do play rugby at the time when the sun is at its lowest in the sky. Maybe a switch to summer rugby would help the pitch. Yet another good reason. :)

Its one of those desso hybrid pitches, yet I read somewhere that it has been relaid, either this year or last year. My understanding of it is that those hybrid pitches are laid for good, how do you relay when you have all those millions of artificial fibres in there? unless you rip it up and redo the whole thing.
The idea was to cover the pitch with plastic sheeting when used for other events, so not sure why it was relayed.

I was at the Blues v Dragons game in October. I saw from CAP that the pitch was certainly present then.
