Post Re: Lions Fill Squad for fun / banter
I still think that Webb going could be a potential disaster waiting to happen, there is jist something about his temperment and mental strength that makes me think he -if in the test team and under the pressure that carries - will do a brain fart that could cost us a test.

Hasks, although i am a huge fan as a Waspie is short of form and fitness since his op, he would need to do an awful lot to get back to his best when he was key in our 3-0 whitewash of the Wallabies last summer.

I still think a true bolter and a player that could provide that element of brilliance to get a win is Christian Wade, he can score in a phone box, can create things when no one else can, and beats players for fun. Most teams have to put at least 2-3 players on him to try to contain him, and the ABs would be no different, which creates space elsewhere. And his previously frailties in defence and under the high ball do not exist anymore. To see why he deserves to go, just watch how he was by far the better player between him and North last week, and that was not just a one game thing, he has been doong this all season, and before.

which ever way you cut it there are some serious shortages in certain positions.

At scrum half we have Connor Murray - then although he is one of the worst welsh first choice 9's in years Webb, and people are talking about Laidlaw - he is a horrible player.

Tight Head, again after tFurlong - who is there if Nel is injured - Cole the penalty machine - with a ref who knows the laws. He scrummages illegally every time. Samson has not come on like I hoped he would.

Full Back Hogg, decent broken field runner, awful defender, Liam Williams on his day a good player, Halfpenny has lost form.

Hooker - there is no standout player, Best and Owens are decent journeymen, but both can lose there throwing arm.

Roberts: Has no current form to justify his place on the Wales tour, let alone the Lions. In the autumn of his career, and deserves to be remembered for his wonderful accomplishments rather than a fading player out of his depth that failed on a Lions tour to NZ.
Evans, Cole: No
Youngs: It would be badly unjustified as frankly Robson is a better 9 that Eddie will not select! A bolter and better player.
Sinkler, Webb: Deffo a tour to soon! better served on the England and Wales tour. Both could start fights in a phonebox, which at the highest level hurts rather than inspires.
Halfpenny: Form does not merit inclusion, frankly not good enough at the moment.
Kruis: another bolter, but injury may exclude him.
North: Will go, but it will be based upon hope rather than current form (to justify his selection will have to prove himself in every game from now on, starting against Sarries Sunday). Frankly Wade is better.

Although I agree with a bit of what you said, I think this will be what Gats will pick. A few of the above names wouldn't be there if it was my choice tbh

For starters Hartley should be no where near the squad, but I think Gats will take him

What do you think the squad will be?

1: M Vunipola, J McGrath, J Marler/C Healey
2: Best, George, Hartley
3: T. Furlong, WP Nel (if fit), Cole (I think Gats will pick, not my choice).
4-5: Itoje, Krus, Launchbury, Lawes, AWJ, Henderson
6: Haskell (although IMO current form not good enough), CJ Stander, Robshaw
7: O'Brian, Warburton, Tipuric/ Young Young (between thise two, Young is a bolter, but one hell of a player).
8: B. Vunipola, Faletaeu, Heaslip/Hughes
9: Murray, Care, Laidlaw (Webb, disaster waiting to happen. Robson: another bolter, but in reality stands no chance)
10: Sexton, Ford, Russell,
11: North, Nowell, Watson
12: Farell (C), Henshaw, Te'o (Bolter but the man rapidly becoming class, and a game breaker)
13: Daly, JJ, Ringrose
14: Wade, Visser, Bowe,
15: L Williams, Hogg (VC), Kearney.

Totals:
England: 21/22
Wales: 6/7
Ireland: 14/15
Scotland: 5

It may upset some, and some of my selections are a mixture of who I think will go rather than who i would want to see go, but i would be comfortable with this squad. Represenational numbers are purely accidental, however fairly represent where the teams are and their performances and form are.

Wouldn't happen to be a wasps fan would you mate...

:D :D

Decent looking squad that and I totally forgot about Marler, think he'll go in place of Evans

Robshaw, Bowe and Hartley I hope won't be going and tbh I can only see Hartley going out of those three EDIT- Lawes another who I think should miss out

I'm not sure there's much point in taking three out and out 8's, especially with stander being able to play there. Full back the same as I think certain players can fill in at fb when needed

Going to be interesting that's for sure.

What gave away my club loyalty? :laughing8: :laughing8:

I have to admit those you selected are my think will goes rather than would like to go, although i could be persuaded by Robshaw as the man is a work horse with a huge engine that can go the full 80.

I have to admit my choices of 8 and 15 especially centre around those that I would see to be out and out players for their position, as if injury occurs the others are more capable 'specialists' rather than utility, which would lead to a smoother transition, with playimg levels kept high. My thoughts are the ABs especially could expose a Lion that is not 100% confident in their position.

Watching the Telegraph "expert" selection and Owens, Faletau, AWJ, Warbs and Tipuric make the plan from the forwards Of the backs, I would think maybe Webb and North in the running.

Not sure you can add up. The squad will be around 37 and not 47. Tommy Bowe? Seriously? Laidlaw ahead of Webb? Haskell and Robshaw at 6?
Its Gatland as coach and not Lord Bald mate.
