Toby will travel he's a gatland favourite.

I think a lot of the lions squads/test teams been selected at the moment are not taking gatlands own selection history into account. There will be a large contingent of Welsh players. Bear in mind the last tour he dropped bod for Jonathan Davis. Id say Welsh wise he'll pick to tour

Evans
Owens
Aw jones (tour captain not guaranteed his test place)
Warburton
Tipuric
Falataue
Owens
Jonathan Davis
George north
Liam Williams
Half penny

That Owens is some player he is going twice by the looks of it

There may be a few players in the squad as it's going to be quite large to deal with the
Number of games. The test side might only include north and warburton... with Owens a possible

Could be.

Faletau is an option on the bench and Biggar might get the nod as well, given an injury for Sexton. Rhys Webb is one you've missed, ABJ. Rhys is playing well.

All the Wales players that go will be in the Test 23 more than likely. That's very much the same as Woodward's Tour, isn't it?

Yes think so

I don't think Evans will go and he may start with Murray at 9 but do think Webb is ahead of youngs. Gatland may spring a surprise and take Jenkins at LH. He is getting on but still has a lot to offer

Fancy Rob Evans to be on standby, he's been playing very well for a while now

What are we thinking re the number of props? 3 lh's and 3 th's? Can't think of many who can play both sides these days

I know the Lions tour party is being announced on 16 April.

Anyone know how many players are being taken?

The papers seem to think 36/37, the last two tours were an original squad size of 37.

2013 tour Squad format:

3 Hookers
6 Props
5 Locks
5 Flankers
2 No.8s
3 SHs
2 FH
4 Centres
4 Wingers
3 FBs

Gatland might go for an extra couple of forwards - one extra #8 and another tight head, perhaps.

Whether that means dropping a winger - Hogg's pace would see him used as a utility player - and having a squad of 38 is up in the air.

Personally, I'd take 40 players as they'll need some luck to avoid losing halfbacks.

If Farrell is going as a centre you have your FH backup.

Not sure about that tbh

Cant see the only two 10's playing every game and if gatland sees him more of a centre then I'd have thought he'd want him to establish himself in that position and create a partnership in midfield

Iirc Hogg had a game at 10? Different level of opposition this time around though...

IIRC Hogg had a couple of run outs at 10 in 2013 and was seen as the 3rd choice FH. Not much mention of him covering FH this tour.
