Post No more 'foreigners' to be selected for France
Only players with a french passport will be eligible for selection to the french team in the future. This was a promise of new FFR President Laporte before the election.

Current 'foreign' mebers of the squad will be retained (4 in the current squad?).

Article here and available for googled translation etc.

Inevitably, looks like there may be 'exceptional' examples ;)

France have millions of people in their protectorates.

Aren't they entitled to passports?

Beany, my dismay at an insensitive remark!!

I have lived in France for 27 years and I appreciate suffering and courage and bravery of military and public.

More public and miltitary deaths and destruction in both W Wars when compared to UK.

Full frontal bravery and resilience face to face with the enemy in France, cue the infamous battles (the 100 anniversary of Battle of Verdun last week).

The level of attrocities suffered were huge in WW2.

The bravery of the Resistance examplary.

I live in an area that suffered extensively.

I consider your remark unfortunate especially in a sporting context!

Well, if there are exceptions then it's all horse shite and not worth the cheese eating surrender monkey paper that it's written on.

I think the exception is only applicable under formal passprt application rules which have some special circumstances which would lessen a normal 5 year timeframe.

Spedding the 'foreigner' FB already in the squad has recently achieved citizenship despite having qualified by previous residency rules.

Question is how long does it take you to get a passport?
if you are Zola Budd...about a week, but that wont happen again.

For me, i dont care. if people LIVE in a country for say 3 years, then they have shown some commitment to that country, paid taxes and spent money. Making it longer might prevent good players playing as they will be too old.
OR if we are having a rule about being born and bred in a country then stick to it but Aus and NZ wont....so we are stuck!

Tough shout though. If players move to the country with the sole aim of getting an international game then it kins of cheapens it. The passport demonstrates a commitment that goes beyond rugby. I think that 3 years is a short amount of time. I believe that a percentage of professional rugby for non eligible players would be better, say 50% since you became pro or 5 years, whichever is longer or a passport.
