We won 12-8, and played really poorly.

Forwards looked a bit ponderous, and our back row was absent on 7's and other duties.

Still a win is a win..

OMBAC home this Saturday, Fids' favourite people..

Belmont Shore Bowls Over OMBAC

Belmont Shore pounded OMBAC Saturday in the marquee DI game of the week. The final score was 48-23, but Belmont led 31-9 at one point.

Leading the way in the scoring department for Belmont were Eric Duechle and Jack Tracy. Tracy scored two from the inside center position and Duechle two from blindside flanker.

“Eric had made a couple of big runs. He was clean through after about 10-15 minutes. He got a great break and he was just chased down short of the line,” said Belmont coach Ray Egan.

“The next time he broke through he kind of played it better. He offloaded and then received the ball back. And then he got one midfield score where he just broke through the line ripped through and just corner flagged it.

“He played well. We played him at No. 8 on back row moves, and he was obviously a big load to bring down. So he was doing a lot for us up front.”

Egan was equally pleased with the play of the rest of his pack, particularly tighthead prop Jake Grubbs and No. 7 Eddie McKenna.

“I think we kind of have the upper edge on the scrum again this week. Our lineout was a lot better with our new hooker, Joe Taufetee, in terms of the set piece. Our tight five did a lot of work,” he said.

Belmont Shore looks to go 3-0 against 1-0 Back Bay next week, while OMBAC tries to rebound against cross town rivals the San Diego Old Aztecs.

Very good game, well worth the drive across town :D

Back Bay fancied their chances being unbeaten and the fact that we rested 4 first team forwards, and left our 2 US Eagle 7's backs on the bench..

Well it was not to be, with Belmont executing our Munster coach's pick and drive technique flawlessly, and our much bigger pack dominated the set pieces and breakdown, and by half time it was 28-6, with 4 tries scored from close quarters.

In the second half we opened it up a bit and put some reserves on, Back Bay fought back well, but we ran out easily 66-24.

Lovely surroundings next to the Pacific Ocean, always nice to wear shorts to watch rugby, and some very nice people at the host team.

Los Angeles Rugby Club Next week.

After 3 days of rain, which turns Los Angeles into a panic area (they drive even faster in the rain  ), Away to Los Angeles RFC at 1pm..

The sun has emerged, almost finished my work and should be a good game, with a softish pitch made for our bigger forwards.

Well, we struggled again, with LA fired up in front of a crowd of 300.

We drew the referee who always pings us at ruck time ....and both our flankers were carded..even though nobody was on their feet..

Los Angeles gave us a big battle, and we missed 5 penalties but won 18-14.

LE renewed acquaintance with said referree and offered to by him a copy of the laws.. :D
