Post Belmont Shore RFC Long Beach USA
I am pleased to announce that we have recruited two senior members of the Munster organization to run our senior sides in 2012.

SE is now filled wth undue optimism, that these nice Irish gentlemen will coach our 4 teams in the dark arts of breaking the laws and getting away with it.. all these passing and line out drills are over rated :D

It's easy to play the referee when he used to play for you, Ex.

Get your older players to take referee courses - it'll pay off eventually.

Good thought, but this is amateur rugby, they don't even come to training half the time or pay subs..

SE , I am hearing on the match commentaries here names of quite a few USA players.
Do you have any idea how many are playing in Europe.
All I know is that it will be good for the Eagles long term.

About 7 or 8 in Europe of the first XV. Wiles at Saracens, full back, and Nyanga (spelling?) wing at Biarritz, are the only first teamers I am aware of. A few play in Japan also, including the captain.

US has no footballers and little natural on the ball talent, which is a big issue. No props/locks either.

Amazed Clever didn't get a French contract! Watched that guy a few times and if I didn't want to risk being poo-poo'd about it, I'd say he is a flanker on a par with McCaw!! Shame he decided to stay a 'Yank' (but, good for him that he did!) he was the best open-side flanker in South Africa for a few seasons, bar none!! (Cue cries of rubbish from our Saffer friends!!)

He's a very nice moest guy too.

We won our opener 42-21 yesterday with a couple of new good forwards on show. If you thnk the ruck is bad at pro rugby, come down a couple of notches, there were bodies everywhere..

We demolished Los Angeles Rugby Club 71-5 yesterday and the side is being very well coached by our Munster duo.
A lot of rolling mauls, pick and drives, hands the in the rack, midfield crossing, obstruction, and all sorts of Munster traditions coming to the fore. :D
We beat this team by 10 points only last year but yesterday was one way traffic, including a pushover try.

Entertaining game in 74 degree weather.

Yes, yesterday was quite remarkable, as we played Santa Monica. Match report to follow...

It was another glorious 70+ degrees in Long Beach yesterday as we played 3 matches against Santa Monica, which is a good club with good support. SE could not use madame's parking pass for the California State University site, so a good one and a half mile walk was necessary. Long Beach State has about 30,000 students and the University campus is about the size of some Welsh towns.

SE stayed for the first team game and half the second team game as after 2 awful 6 Nations games in the morning, I was beginning to turn into a rugby ball. The game started with some good forward exchanges and little space and defence was good on both sides. Belmont opened the score afer 32 minutes with a good back three move from a misplaced kick from the Santa Monica 10, who did not learn as 3 later tries came the same way.

SM fought back with a good rolling maul drive which produced a score in the corner which was converted to leave the half time score at 7-5 to the visitors.

Our Munster staff made some adjustments at half time which saw an uptake in pace and Belmont playing the running rugby the club is known for. Five more tries were run in and Belmont were comfortable winners at 36-7.

Three wins and three BP's thus far.
