We have an excellent utility back from the Llanelli area and he is ex British army, like Fids. ;)

Nice lad, I am not sure he is fully legal here so I won't mention any names..does clever loop runs and shows a lot of feel for the game

We won easily 27-18, but it should have been far more...hard game start next week..good conversation with the ref in the club afterwards who last year reffed an England Championship League game.

We beat Los Angeles by 40 points yesterday and we had a French referee who has done D1 games as a guest. He was immaculate but spent most of his time explaining the rules of the game to both teams who had strong PI representation.

There was a moment of true humour after half time when the LA captain, who was binned for a tip tackle 1 minute before half time reappeared on the field at the start of the second half and made a break while our team were trying to get the attention of the referee. LA was about to score when the referee realised what was happening. :D

Post Re: Belmont Shore RFC Long Beach USA
After the morning's disappointment, I wandered over to Long Beach to see us play OMBAC, a great club from San Diego, which does a lot of charity fund raising etc..The rain in midweek softened up the ground and the game was end to end, often played with more luck than judgement, after 2 yellow cards, we found ourselves down 22-8 with 15 minutes to go, and I was trying to figure out whether I would have IPA or Bitter, when we scored 2 quick tries to make is 22-20 with 5 minutes left.

Our speedy outside center from American Samoa then burst through from 20 yards and our 10 missed an easy conversion, Still 25-22 looked good with 2 minutes left, until we gifted them a penalty 40m out which was duly kicked. 25-25 would have been a fair result, but a break from our skipper at scrum half, lead to our number 8 scoring in the corner as time expired.

30-25 the final score, which salvaged something from the day.

Next week we play Tucuman from Argentina.

PS our last season's hooker, Joe Talefatu, has been signed by Worcester Warriors.

Happy days, good atmosphere, close to 300 there, a lot for over here.

I chose the IPA..

Tucuman from Argentina today, followed by a party in our local, doubt there will be any steak though.

Playing on a plastic pitch since we've had 4 inches of rain in the last 36 hours

Belmont 8-57 Tucuman, and it wasn't that close.

The local ref gave them 2 yellows as well, but even he couldn't make it close.

Nice people too, would have liked to stay longer at the after match function, but the local constabulary come out after dark.

We had one starter in the USA team that beat Canada up there 51-34 on Sunday. Full back Mike Te'o scored 3 tries in the win and popped up usefully in attack, but was absent in defence a few times.

Game was better than the older versions of this fixture which involved cards and dismissals, and the referee from Argentina was firm throughout.

US has a number of wins consecutively against Canada, and the squad has improved.
Nowhere near real pro level yet though.
