Post Premiership expansion into Pro 12- Who would they invite?
Ok say if the English Premiership were looking at an expansion which would take in teams from the Pro 12 League. How many teams would they want and who ?

Then that leads onto what criteria would they choose the teams on?
    1970s playing records and gates?
    Finances?
    Facilities?
    Crowds?
    European record?
    Travelling support?
    Playing style?
    Geographic location?
    Ownership model?
    Potential TV viewership?
    Potential marketing opportunities?

I probably missed some obvious ones out.

Wasn't this offer on the tables a few years back but we turned it down because we didnt want to be relugated for 4 years? :dontknow:

Would be good to get an idea of both teams at full strength performance.

I think you would find an almighty stink kicked up from the English championship , if ANY "foreign" teams were invited ti their top tier.

Some of the Championship may complain, but most wouldn't as they have not got the financial backing to support them.
I still think a combined British & Irish Championship, (Lions Rugby Football League), is the way forward, provided certain financial issues can be sorted, (salary caps, shared revenues etc)

How about 30 teams in 2 conferences of 15, with 3 groups of 5, playing a 16 match regular season and 5 weeks of play offs.

The obvious conferences would be Celtic and Anglo
The Celtic conference would be the current 10 Celtic Pro 12 teams with the addition of Caledonia, London Irish, London Scottish, London Welsh and Cornish Pirates

The groups would be Irish, Scottish and Welsh, with the Pirates joining the Scottish group.

The Anglo conference would be the current 12 AP teams, plus, Yorkshire, Doncaster and one other from the Championship based on ability to finance.

The interest from playing in London would benefit crowds for Celtic conference
