Post PRO14 attendance stats final round Season 2017/2018
These are the stats for this Season and % comparison for teams for last Season.

Note : this is, of course, apples and pears in terms of comparison in terms of new SA entries, a different 2 league system, some teams play more home games than others and the Judgement Day increased level attendance which uplifts Dragons and Blues stats :D :D

PS Wales and Ireland y-o-y % average comparison(ref graph) are near zero

Although I record the play offs to Final ... these are the best 1 : 1 comparisons because play off teams vary and venues for 'home ' games make irregular swings etc

However ;) :

Except for the Dragons' slight increase (where has that come from?), to a large extent the changes can be explained by success (or lack thereof): Scarlets have increased considerably, Ospreys have decreased considerably, Leinster have increased a little, Ulster and Connacht have decreased a little, while the Italians and Edinburgh have increased considerably (albeit from rather low bases).

Dragons turning over more than ospreys is interesting...

Is that really right?

Naj

Both your comments above neglect the Drags and Blues effect of the 62k +. Judgement Day home allocation shared between them ( previously discussed in some detail on this Forum) ?

Not naj...

Anyway can’t you just take them out

ie take the 62k out of the numerator and take the game out of the denominator. One less observation but it’s a mean anyway

Apologies Naj!...but I do refer to your one post ref Drags, osps etc ...

I take your point on a mean etc(the Judge day total is divided between the 2 clubs) but ...
To take out the Judgement day figs would also cause rework to the comparison levels previous Seasons
(the Borders exit has been normalised in my long term stats, the Italy inro separated and now we have the SA arrival to cater for too)

The graphs included are just part of a large subset that I have and used for various different purposes.

Similar anomalies are regular throughout the 3 Euro leagues....Aviva Clubs have Wembley and Twickers bonanzas and Top14 too. Interestingly the Scottish increased stats are also affected by some large offsite games featuring Edin etc...

I just post them with the notes provided to provide general onformation ( if you refer to the note in the first post ...there are other anomalies as described)

If interest stretches further there's always reference to the published stats ...

In general terms the Pro14 average is far inferior to the other 2 leagues ...

I have the stats over 10 years +

I'm sorry but just for info 'as is' folks

While it may be true that average attendance is 'far inferior' to the other two, you're forgetting the impact that having Italian teams (Italy is a quasi-Tier Two country - sorry but it has to be said), Dragons, Connacht and now two relatively weak SA teams has had on the league. Also, especially regarding the last of those, the number of travelling fans would be rather lower than in the other two leagues, given the greater distances and more complex travelling arrangements. Once those factors are all taken into account, the Pro 14 actually stands up quite well imo. For example, someone living in London could travel by train to any of the non-London teams in the Aviva in less than four hours. Aside from derby matches, the Pro 14 has nothing comparable.

Travel aspects is a non item ...just look at travel distances in France.

Some of the Irish attendances make a big swinger and the Munster and Leinster away support is probably the biggest over the 3 leagues.

Whilst population argument might seem valid that is tenuous too Stade Francais in Paris now has low attendance and Racing too until they opened their new Stadium. Some confusing realities there too Swansea/Cardiff/Clermont stats should be comparable? La Roc, Pau, perform well regarding Town sizes and immediate competitive sports.

In France there are 30 pro clubs with loyal fans in Prodiv2 that compete with the Top14 teams.

In Aviva and Top14 the footy premier clubs and other divisions compete a lot more than the Welsh and Irish varieties.

Superficial evidence sometmes doesn't relate to fact?... it becomes a complex argument especially if you add in some of the other oft used misconceptions like pricing, weather, TV coverage, Clusters, social circumstance, etc etc
