Post Moriaty to Dragons Confirmed
In WalesOnline and on Dragons website / twitter & the Rugby Paper.

2 year deal and not an NDC.

Move from 5th in premiership and possible Euro champions experience to a team 2nd bottom of pro 14 table below even Benetton. That's really a step up and going to improve his game and development.

WRU influence of interest here...

Post Re: Moriaty to Dragons Confirmed
Gloucester have underperformed for years and have been mainly playing in the Challenge cup, so I can understand why he would want to leave them.

It's abundantly clear the Wales selection rules are a big (the main?) factor so he had to pick a Welsh team. You can like that or not, but it doesn't mean that there's some kind of conspiracy going on. There are any number of reasons why he would pick the Dragons out of the four choices:
- It's not clear whether there were even offers from all the others;
- Bigger ££ on offer perhaps;
- Presumably he lives in Gloucestershire somewhere and the Dragons are the most convenient meaning he wouldn't have to move or commute too far.
- Knows he will be the poster boy for the team in a way that wouldn't be the case elsewhere - all the other regions have higher-profile Wales internationals than him. Probably good to increase his own marketability and profile.

Happy days!... Look forward to Ross Moriarty and Georgie North linking up some time soon. George can even start delivering his missus' cakes!

It is of national interest that the Dragons must improve; this is a step in the right direction,.

I'm on the fence at the mo ...

Recognise and respect some of the reasons above.

I will wait and see how WRU play their hand ;)

It should have been to the Blues in place of Nick Williams. :D

Why has it been ignored for the last 15 years then? WRU now looks more Roger Lewis-like than Roger Lewis, who was villified..

Whole thing stinks...even though it may be a good idea

If this keeps up ,Will other regions want to be taken over by the union?

Post Re: Moriaty to Dragons Confirmed
Dragons' new Chairman, David Buttress, apparently outbid the WRU NDC in order to secure Moriarty. Whether this was (a) engineered in order to spare the WRU the difficulties of managing NDC offers from other Regions, (b) without the cooperation of the WRU as a 'big name' vanity/catalyst signing or (c) a sign that Buttress is going to run and potentially take over the Dragons at some point, isn't clear.

As the WRU have to fund the 4 Regions equally, it would be more convenient for them if the Moriarty money was seen as private investment. ;)

I can see that Dragons will want a big statement signing to illustrate their own regeneration, but I'm not sure one or two big Wales stars are what they really need to make them competitive across a season.

Interesting times...

That's why I'm sitting on the fence, I think there's a 'long game' afoot ....

The new Dragons chairman is a pretty successful bloke in his own right! Apparently part of the Moriarty deal was free takeaways for the period of his contract, that's what sealed the deal! :kermit:

I think Twitter's local Cardiff server might explode, which would be a shame as you would miss Ian Gough calling someone (you know who) a bellend
