Cheetas Kings in two different conf. Cheetahs had a good start in the Currie Cup. Will be a tough season for both teams after playing S18 and somewhat easier for the Kings as they don't play in the Currie Cup. Year2 will be much better for SA without the S18 then

What would you say the odds are on the other South African sides joining when their current Super Rugby deal is up?

Very good indeed!
Logistically so much better
Costs lower
Jetlag relief! Not having to fly 30 hours forward into time to nz and play 5 games in Australasia! while they only play 2 games in sa and fly backwd in time
Also the Currie Cup competition is strength vs strength and there are 2 other teams except Cheetahs that are not playing S18 currently but that are stronger than the Kings eager for NH. Seems at first they will join the Anglo/Welsh cup, they are the Steval Pumas (Highveldt and Lowveldt combined) and Griquas (populated Northern Cape with hq in Kimberley)

I think that would be the best way to go to be honest. Get the remaining South African sides involved so they can have their own conference, with maybe an Italian team as well (not as far as Northern Europe). A Celtic conference could then be formed with maybe an American side if that is still on the table. Would be a better format and would cut down on travelling.

According to Wales Online, the Scarlets play at home against the Kings during Round 1, while Ulster play against the Cheetahs the night before:

Sometime this week, not necessarily today as such.

Those South African sides are going to be knackered - They've just played their season and are walking straight into ours

Or match hardened, whereas Welsh teams won't be able to use NDC players, (that will kill the Ospreys), Lions or Welsh internationals (rumoured on Scarlet Fever).

Won't affect Newport or Cardiff much. ;)

Scarlets' first team has 6 Welsh internationals in the backs, 5 in the pack, plus the Scottish captain. A lot to do without in the first game.

Ospreys and Cardiff had to put up with that for years

Ospreys during the 6 nations, maybe, but Cardiff?

Anyway, I didn't think you were interested in Welsh rugby ;) :P

The Ospreys have always done quite well though during theses periods when their international players aren't available.

Disagree. The last time was the world cup year which was their worst season since their inception.

watching definitely, not just Welsh ruby but all rugby, bores the pants off me but when someone makes a comment like yours it deserves some context being added.

Fair point, however, perhaps what I meant to say was that they have done fairly well in the past when their international players have been with Wales.
