If you are going to add that kind of travel then wouldn't teams from South Africa make more sense?

Bump the Italians, Wales and Ireland go to 3 regions and bring in the Currie Cup second division, with promotion to Currie Cup first division for the 2 top South African teams as the prize.

Is there funding available from SA? there was talk of this before

I haven't fully ironed out the concept, I only thought about it for about 2 minutes to be honest.

Thats 1min 40 sec longer than the usual replies :D

NO NO NO. (1) The Italian teams are bad enough, so go figure for North American teams. (2) The logistics and travel would be too costly and cumbersome.

Indeed, and why would the Pro 12 seek to replicate it?

I think it's a great idea.

As is the case with all pro sport, it's about one thing..........money. They're looking to expand into new markets, and go after something often complained about, a lucrative TV contract..

Away fans don't travel much anyway. even in the aviva there are only a few teams who have a noticeable travelling fan base.

If you play every team in the other conference once (either home or away) that is an additional 7 games not 6. So 19 games in total.

They key thing is the two new teams need to be competitive, we have seen the harm that the Italian (+ dragons + blues ) sides do when they lose by 50+ points every game.

It's not just the Italians that are poor

The team 16 points ahead of Edinburgh and just 4 behind Glasgow?
