Maybe Saracens are not so daft and spendthrift ;) ;)

I have posted in the past that a more convergent SA to N Hemp was on the cards and the SA Consortium aspect of Saracens backing was aware of it and part of their long game ;)

Cheetahs are chicken feed and expelled from Super Rugby but SA / NH hemp has potential for both.

All part of the eventual Internationalisation of Club Rugby, probably a Conference system and the N and S Hemp competition only after preparatory play offs.

EPRC will inevitably be part of it probably in a revised format.

Where Welsh Rugby will fit, ... a moot point.

Lots of other geography potential irons in the fire too.

It would be good for Rugby if this were to come to fruition. Far better a constructive competitive link than players continue to flee their homeland.

Presumably , each NH side would play 2 games back to back in SA and vice versa?

No, why not just base the Cheetahs at Parc Eirias? Everyone's a winner.

Or if more of them join could it be done in conferences ie. South Africans come to Wales and play all four sides and then go back to South Africa and play all four Irish sides down there? Would be an expensive proposition though.

How about going the whole hog and creating a Euro-Africa Championship.

6 SA teams
12 Pro12 teams
11 AP teams
11 T14 teams

Have a conference based league of 2 conferences of 20, each with 4 groups of 5, equal split of each country in each conference.

Play a regular season of
Home and away in group. 8 matches
Home or away v a group in own conference 5 matches
Home or away v group in other conference 5 matches
Home or away v one team from the 2 other groups in own conference. 2 matches

This would give a season of 20 matches, instead of 22-26 currently.

Play off would be group winners plus the next best 4 from each conference, finishing with a Super Final at neutral venue, this would be a 5 week play off series with the extra week for a week off before the final.

Think this would become a huge event, the only downside would be the idea of limiting teams to being franchises.

Pro14 from next season .....

Quote:
South African sides Cheetahs and Southern Kings set to join Pro12

South African teams Cheetahs and Southern Kings are set to join the Pro12 as early as September 2017.
The two sides are expected to be cut from Super Rugby on Friday, 7 July when governing body Sanzaar reduces the size of the competition..

That will pave the way for them to join teams from Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Italy in a 14-team league.
The new format is set to start for the 2017-18 season, rather than the following year.

Cheetahs and Kings to join Pro12
Don't think it is because theyr'e the weakest in S18
Lions have beaten Sunwolves by 94 - 7 last Saturday
The Kings won 5 S18 games so far this season some in Australasia. They have beaten the Jaguares in Argentina last Saturday (the Argies test side)
They play the Bulls on Saturday and watch this spac. Bulls are below them and the Cheetahs on the log.
The Cheetahs won the Currie Cup in 2016. They are not a good touring side and political and economic factors played a role in them having the lowest gate which was one of the criteria used to determine the so-called sacked teams.
There are some weaker teams in S18
Pro12 will benefit I believe

The logistics are far more complex for the South African sides, having to fit in eleven games in Europe. The present fixture strategy could enable them to play on a Sunday and Friday, but what other way you look at it the venture is going to be very costly. But it could be an opportunity for supporters to get a reasonably priced holiday in South Africa.
