I just can't see this working.

SA is too far away even if the time zones are aligned(ish). The Lions tour there for God's sake and you're talking about making
it part of our domestic league.

The SA economy seems to be in a death spiral.

There is no raison d'etre for such a league, at the moment the Celts can claim they are playing in 'their league'

Martin Anayi is a 'visionary'. God protect us from visionaries, they destroy more often than they succeed.

Having watched a program on last night about the origins of the Celts, they were found well into Europe and kick the arse of the Romans in Rome, knowing the Celts many a roman bird had a good seeing too so without doubt there's Celtic blood in the Italians :thefinger: :thefinger:

Sorry, but I think there's a better chance of me becoming President than that happening.

The Cheetahs

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/40122015

A South African club has been invited to join the Pro12, BBC Scotland has learned.

The Cheetahs, based in Bloemfontein, have been approached by the league, which currently comprises teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy.

The Pro12 deny extending a formal invitation, but say discussions are underway between stakeholders.

Two South African franchises will be cut from Super Rugby from 2018, amid a downsizing of the competition.

The Cheetahs and the Port Elizabeth-based Kings are widely expected to lose their Super Rugby status.

This speculation is thought to have prompted an invitation from the Pro12 - the league has explored options for expansion in North America and other parts of Europe, as it aims to generate more revenue and tap into new markets.

The South African Rugby Union is also eager to align with a northern hemisphere tournament in future.

I suppose they could logistically have chosen a more difficult place for European based franchises to get to, but it would be a struggle. The notion of a team flying for 12-13 hour's to get to Josie and them clearing immigration and going onto a 90 minute domestic flight in bonkers. I know that there are a lot of committed rugby fans in Bloem but I can't see large contingents of away supporters coming in from Newport or Llanelli.

Nonsense. Just because Dragons fans won't go and see a local game doesn't mean they won't comit as per your post! :D

The Southern hemisphere teams regularly travel long distance and have an exhilarating competition .. it is only our muddy boots that stand in the way of progress. As for travelling fans .. are you serious? Who in their right mind would have gone to inbred newport anyway? I did, even took my Wife, sat in the stands to be safe I thought .. bloody mongrels threatened us just because I shouted 'Dragons'. After that I never took her again but went on my own and met Steve Trow and Joe Cocker, good lad's both.

I admire The Scarlet's and don't think they should be mentioned in the same sentence as the other lot.

One of the reasons I enjoyed the Dragon's games was Percy thumping the ball off the roof.
