A deep thinker on not only physics who was given 2 years to live, 50 years ago.
A committed remainer who thought that brexit was a huge mistake, not only economically.
Sad loss to this country.

Really sad, an example of how the power of thought can bring fulfilment to a physically blighted life.

Gone to that great Black Hole in the sky.
Some SH quotes to contemplate and enjoy.

Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.

The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.

I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.

We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.

Life would be tragic if it weren't funny.

I have no idea. People who boast about their IQ are losers.

People won't have time for you if you are always angry or complaining.

We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet,

Not only does God play dice, but... he sometimes throws them where they cannot be seen.

They gave him 2 - 3 years at age 22. I think he proved them wrong in spades.

I have no idea what he was talking about most of the time, went straight over my head, got to page 15 of Brief history of time before I launched it but his humour and heart I got, every time.

Galileo, Einstein and Hawking. Thats how it'll go when we talk about the greatest minds our species has created.

He was taking legal action against the NHS being privatised by stealth, I hope that particular baton gets picked up.

I hope where ever he is he keeps the synthetic voice, but not the chair, he can roam free now.

Ironically he was unable to speak for more than forty years yet he was an outstanding communicator.

Loved one story today, because he had to 'type' all his responses he didn't have to attend any meetings at Cambridge as it was too time consuming. He loved that apparently, no bureaucracy gave him more time to think :D

Do you know he moved the cursor with his cheek muscle? He still did it quicker than I can with both hands.

He was replying to Freeman Dyson as quickly as Dyson was to him

I think he stands as a remarkable human being just by dint of his surviving so long and with decent attitude.

His Science is secondary to that in my mind.

He could have been controlling robots stacking shelves in Tesco's by the twitch of his cheeks and I'd be equally impressed.

I am not so impressed by 'Hawking's Radiation' even though it is popular in the tabloids - that is on a par with Monkey's typing a Shakespearean play given enough time. Just think .. a black hole gollup's up zillions of tons of matter in a day yet emits one or two particles at the periphery the shear imbalance is ridiculous ... yet mathematically plausible given enough time. And that time? greater than the first tick of the clock.
