Where I live in Southern Ontario, the schools stay open until the mercury drops below-35°C, at that temp it is considered too cold for the kids to go out to play, or walk to/from school............

That does not sound realistic. Maybe at a very high point in freezing mist, but sounds very extreme. The low temps usually cone after many days with frozen ground and wind from the Arctic, even then -14 sounds a lot (or a little or what ever)

Right, I have said that, now I am bound to freeze my nubs off tonight.
Anyway, I'm off to sunny Spain, enjoy it.; :thefinger:

It gets cold on the top by the Epynt.

It is just an excuse for a day off. It isn't about being a wimp. Teachers and children like the day off.

Gander Air Force Base 1995, February, minus many, probably lots.

One night stay over in a leaky C130 on the way to Belize, we only had tropical gear, including civvies. It was 300m from our accommodation to the base bar. Hawaiian shirts and shorts donned, on your marks, get set GO. Half way to the bar the cold had completely done for us, we could not breathe, do we turn round to the safety of our beds and warm sleeping bags or fight on to the bar?

Not a bad place, decent beer and nice burgers.

Visiting Houston on business in Feb.

No probs, lightly clad.

Had call to go to Anchorage Alaska ...

Taken to hotel on arrival ... no probs, ...

Asked next next day for shopping mAll ...

Leather jacket and mac dared the temps to get there ...not far ...

Christ the cold .... sight when I entered the Mall was one to behold!

Should've stayed with the stuffed polar bears in the hotel foyer.

Fantastic region and wild life summer and winter ... in clear air Mt Mcknley can be seen for miles and moles

The oil enterprise I was concerned with was on the North face.

That is cold!

In 2013 we saw a 84°C temperature spread, 42°C mid summer and -42°C mid winter.

The ice rain is the worst, super cooled water that freezes on impact, it leaves about an inch of crystal clear ice on everything, stunning.

Canadian weather can be temperamental .....

Eaton Centre was available direct from our hotel.

We arrived and went straight to the shops above ground, no problem.

CN Tower for dinner and we were told a touch of snow was blowing in overnight.

All the homeless guys sleeping out were gone in the morning and we had 2 feet of snow on the ground.

It was gone by the next evening and the boat trips resumed ...

Spoke to a Canadian guy at the Rugby waaay back when Gareth Rees was playing, and he said he lived in the foothills of the rockies (? or was it another range, not sure) and wind blew from that direction in october and moved the snow clouds over the valleys.

He said the norm for the month was snowman and toboggan in the morning and picnic by the lake in the afternoon cos it had all cleared up and was warm enough to swim

We just aren't ready for it in this country, on the three days every ten years it happens.

-4°C and snowing here at the mo, 15-20cm forecast, probably get 10cm, zero drama.

I love winter, I'm not built for summer.
