Post Re: On this day
In 1984 began one of the longest and possibly most damaging industrial disputes ever seen in Britain. Following an announcement by the then Chairman of the Coal Board Ian MacGregor six days earlier that 20 pits would have to close, putting 20,000 miners out of work. The miners led by Arthur Scargill went on strike. This event is etched deeply on the memory of many, in what was to be a very difficult year. The scars from which are still felt by many today.

Deep dark times and communities all over the UK have not yet recovered, and probably never will!

It was actually the 5th, but I was away and could not post it, but Thomas Maldwyn Pryce from Ruthin died at the 1977 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, after setting the fastest time in practice.

The fight goes on regarding Orgreave, with the recent release of declassified files. Should be some media coverage tomorrow, when there is a March on the Home office.

Orgreave is another example of machinations by the Police according to some who want yet another Inquiry costing megabucks.

I'd rather spend millions of quid on destroying feral cats and dogs myself.

Linking the Miners Strike to Hillsborough is crass. The Guardian still does it though ...

Quote:
The police, under the leadership of Peter Wright – who was still chief constable five years later at Hillsborough ...

FFS, let it go willya !!!

Move along, we have too many injustices festering as it is. I don't want the newspapers' version of history to cloud the fact that Maggy was not even-handed in her treatment of UK citizens. For that alone her memory should be despised.
