No. Would just turn it blood red and make it into evil ivy. You really don't want evil ivy.

You need a greenhouse fitted with scrambling nets to grow cucumbers. And unless you buy expensive seeds, the male cucumbers will fertilise the female cucumbers and make them taste disgusting.

I grow mine in a poly tunnel using canes which are cris crossed and we've had our best ever harvest from them

My first year being green fingered

Had two buckets full of potatoes, some tomatoes and and a tub of beans. Cucumbers didn't come though :(

Dig all the ground over and get some fresh manure and spread it about 3 inches deep then just leave it till spring. We are trying green manure for the first time, half with the quick growing type which will be dug in late November and the other half will be left to grow till the spring and then dug in a couple of weeks before planting, apparently it's a good natural way of putting nitrogen back into the ground

The garden's looking a bit untidy at the minute as it's in between time.

Slug hunts are a lot easier now - only a couple of dozen this morning to chuck over the brook from my bucket.

Just watched a big bee taking nectar from a perennial cornflower. I snaffled the small slug in residence once the bee had finished .....

Keep taking the pills, Oik, you might find something to help.

My missus watched amazed yesterday as a male squirrel in full colour walked along the top of the low wall between us and next door up.

A crow flew down and tried to pick it up with its talons, hitting it repeatedly on the back.

The squirrel ran for shelter into the cotoneaster bush overhanging the wall.

The wife walked forwards, the crow promptly flew away, and the squirrel beat a hasty retreat.

Hardly a sound throughout according to She-who-must-be obeyed ....

Ain't gardening great?

:)

Now I've finally gotten rid of the leylandii and bamboo we have a functioning garden. We have a sparrowhawk who comes to stalk the birdfeeders. It's ace.

I am in the shit today ... I have just been told that I destroyed many pots of flowers when I came back from the match yesterday ... apparently there had been a rearrangement that I was unaware of and in my tripping, collapsing confusion completely destroyed.

!1st early spuds this weekend, if the foliage is any thing to go by we will have a bumper crop this year and the first of the strawberries are ready. Trying sweet potato this year as well, though surprisingly, they have absolutely nothing to do with ordinary potatoes
