At least in their backs if not so much their forwards, Ulster surely are the equals of Leinster and Munster? So how come they've been notably less successful than the other two?

Look at the composition of the Irish squad...it 1000% repudiates your baseless assumption

Ulster flatter to deceive...always fall short when it matters, like last year's Pro 12 run in

Wasps have themselves to blame after allowing the Quins to win from behind last week, and there is only one English team in the QF's.

4 Ulster players in the Irish squad which is the same representation as Connacht, the strange part is that 3 are forwards.

Take your pick

*Too much deadwood in the squad which limits competition for places. Diack even got a 2 year extension.
*Expensive imports who have not always convinced. Piutau is a great player on his day and Coetzee looks a knee injury off retirement but the quality tales off significantly.
*Les Kiss
*No pack
*A poor academy which means Ulster has 11 "Mexicans" on the books, Munster and Connacht haven't got the same catchment sizes so they need to draw on Leinster overflow but an area of Ulster size should be producing better quality local players.
*The court case

Leinster>Munster>Ulster/Connacht

What I meant was that, on paper, they look almost if not actually as good as their more illustrious Irish Republic counterparts, but it doesn't really translate into results.

Ulster have not won one piece of silverware since topping the Celtic League in 2006. Granted, they are competitive in the Pro 12/14 and in Europe, but nowhere near enough usually to actually win either.

So why do you make the statement above?
