Post Bastereaud looking at long term ban
Bastereaud will be cited for his obscene and derogatory comments to a Benetton player ....looks like a long ban?

Incident here ...

That's good news for Scarlets he has been playing very well this year and a lot of Toulon game plan is built around his play

“Good evening everybody, I want to apologise for my response to the insults of the Italian player,” Bastareaud wrote. “I reacted badly in responding to his provocation, I am sincerely sorry to all sailors that drop anchor in poo bay.”

I saw the match and Bastareaud did react to something said, ...if it was a racist comment then both are in trouble.

Despite his strength and playing style Basta is a vulnerable character and this has been proven in the past eg his ban in NZ and also some rehab.

He is rightly for the high jump amd maybe the Benetton player too ....must be stamped on.

PC has made everyone hypersensitive. Let's just get on with the game and stuff the PC.
I couldn't give a damn what people are calling each other.
The guy said sorry, it was something he said in the heat of the moment.
I'll be sorry if he is not playing against us next week as we want to play and beat the best.

Bowl at the wicket and the batsman comes across the stumps.

You hit his pads and it's an appeal, and again, and again.

I played a Unison game once where the opposition were playing on their patch, Ystrad Mynach Council Offices Pitch and with their umpires.

I came in 9th - a promotion.

Taking guard middle and leg - the bowler was bowling 2 feet outside off - the umpire allowed his next 2 deliveries to be bowled almost 30 inches outside off with no call of wide.

The bowler started his 5th run up - I held up my hand and asked the umpire to give me a fresh guard - on off.

The umpire actually grumbled but gave me a fresh guard and the bowler ran in a touch faster and bowled only 18 inches wide of off stump, naturally I smacked it past point's left hand (up on my toes as well). It didn't get to the boundary because the off side boundary was protected by grass between 2" and 3" long for the last 20 yards.

Two runs.

They brought on spinners after that - and won by plenty. The batsman at the other end was good - I wasn't.

:D

Must admit i dont think it deserves a six-week ban.

Not that it would necessarily be an excuse but I'm waiting to hear what the Italian Players said in the initial comment.

The main aspect is .... it is written into the regs and must be treated, extenuating circumstances can still apply etc

Also, I think it depends on the referees comments to the affair.

But .... the mike caught the comment and now it is in the public domain.

As stated before Basta has a turbulent past ... ;)

French press today cite previous examples :

-Poteiger Warratahs 20k $ for calling someone 'pedale' ie queer, homo

-Castrogiovanni for 'putain' ...'*fupping*' twice in Press interview ...£10k fine

-Hartley 11 weeks for '*fupping* cheat' to Wayne Barnes

-Tian Oyannax 16 months forinsulting and threatening the ref

The ref incidents one can better understand severity of sentence ... but there is precedence.

How many times do we hear in match commentaries "apologies if you heard that comment" ...

On verra ;)

I abhor the way microphones are shoved in athletes' faces the moment a sporting event is over. Nobody is allowed any privacy any longer or even a moment to compose themselves.

I am old school on this, it should stay between the players. Sticks and stones and all that...

Got to view this in the context of homophobia in sport and the impact this has on the careers and lives of gay sportspeople.

This is worth a read. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/38942441

Sporting bodies are being recommended to issue 2 year bans for individuals found guilty of homophobic abuse.

In football it's now seen as a bigger problem that Racist abuse.
