32 mins gone.

Connacht 28 Zebre 14.

Zebre down to 14 after 2 high tackles and a deliberate KO: ref just lost patience.

Connacht recovered after strong start/riposte from the Italians.

2nd YC for Zebre...another try for Connnacht: conversion strays slightly wide and it's Conncht 33 Zebre 14.

And another touchdown for the Galway men: conversion successful and it's Connacht 40 Zebre 14 at HT.

Has Cooney played much at 10?

Connacht could easily put 70 on Zebre

Is the question has he played (been involved much) today....very much so

Has he played much at 10 per se? AFAIK from the pre-match commentary and analysis, apparently not.

Good to see an Irish SH that can cover two positions and is a decent points kicker.

Just looking at the last Connacht try again: damn close to a forward pass for the scoring ball.

Agreed. Versatility is key and in terms of succession planning, we need IMO, to be developing players that can (preferably) ply at least two trades proficiently.

Cooney's always played 9 for us before, but he's also arguably the best goal kicker in the squad for the last couple of years.

Ronaldson being a 10/12 helps, he's always been very important in running the attack, which was very obvious when he was injured.

54 points now, I can't keep up with this.

There again, neither can Zebre, so fair enough.

With the points difference it's all about Toulouse next week now...Be brilliant if they could do it and it's looking like they will.

Going to Ulster next season, good move for both.

Irish Times
Quote:
John Cooney and Arno Botha have signed two-year contracts with Ulster, with Cooney coming from Connacht and Botha from Super Rugby side the Blue Bulls.
Cooney started his career with Leinster, making his competitive debut in September 2011 in an away fixture versus Ospreys. He then made his European bow later that season when Leinster beat Ulster in the 2012 Heineken Cup Final.
The 26-year-old made 27 appearances for the RDS club before moving to Connacht for the 2014-15 season, where he has amassed 30 caps
