I like the way the scrum engages; thats a positive. But the crooked feed infringement is pants. It slows the game down and just gives the crowd another thing to whinge to the ref about. Why not allow the crocked feeds and just let the scrum be a pushing contest.

Because hooking will favour smaller hookers, and take even more force/pressure out of the scrum.

The point is they are trying to favour skill and nouse over brute force

As you're a scarlet, i thought you would appreciate skill over force?

I don't see how it favours skill over force.

Nothing changes except the team putting the ball in has 7 pushing instead of 8. The team not putting the ball in has 8 available to push, as their hooker doesn't contest the ball. So where is the skill? All it does is weaken the team putting the ball in.

The skill is hooking it back quickly so that you aren't one man light

It also means there's a contest for the ball, the scrum is meant to be a way of restarting the game after a minor infringement not a punishment

But the opposing hooker doesn't seem to be contesting the ball, so the hooking contest doesn't exist. What we are getting is another way of slowing the game down as the ref penalises yet another infringement.

There's a contest because they have a chance of shoving the opposition back and stealing the ball if they take too long to hook the ball

Also, if you quick heel the ball properly then the ball can be out of the scrum quicker, which is a good thing

I love the new regime.

Australia have to compete now and that's going to completely destroy them against sides who have the ability to scrummage accurately and well, witness the Bokke's devastating win today.
