It'll be a great idea if the side contains only players from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

No players from existing clubs outside the islands until their present contracts end?

Clubs in Tonga - 82

Clubs in Samoa - 140

Clubs in Fiji - 560

It’ll be a great idea no matter where they come from, and if you think the squad will only come from the PI clubs, you’re dreaming bro. They’ll get slaughtered by everyone.

Seriously though, hopefully the poaching does stop, we need to hold onto these players.

However, one cannot ignore the potential income and benefits for the players and families concerned.

This, in particular, for those that join academies as there are significant social benefits and obligations for formal training and 'apprenticeships'

Difficulty to ignore that?

and that applies to the experienced players of all venues... look at the delta in salary levels outlined in another post in french stream.

Believe me! I want to limit foreign influx into french rugby (also applies to Eng too where there is some trend directly into the international set up!).

One of the prime inhibitors is the phrasing of controls and care not to abuse Employment Laws etc... cue Kopak and Bosman rulings.

The french Club business, especially, is becoming a significant investment level now and outstripping the Union coffers.

I do believe that World Rugby is running scared of it too and is a major reason why they are lethargic with W Wide timetable which would open the door to a more widespread Club game and competitions whilst lack of it is choking the timetables.

Many fear an increased trend towards the footy model, this is the front end of it.

God help, if and when the likes of the Qataris enter the arena... cue PSG :D

You are only going to hold on to these players if the money paid makes the prospect of NH money look less tempting, even then if the volume of players exceeds the available places, players will still leave not just for the money as much as for the chance to play and earn.

:D They’re the only kiwi side that isn’t above the meat eaters, all of them. Bloody tough being the worst team in NZ, shame they aren’t in an easy group, like say, the SA one.

I was just taking the piss bro. Was having a dig, albeit a pretty sad dig, at the PI teams for stealing our players....... We can’t really do anything about players leaving, our biggest draw card is the national jersey and possibly our structures and country. We will never be able to equal the pound, euro or yen. It’s why we will never select players outside of NZ.
