Driving through the Waikato and saw a house with a flag at half mast. Knew it would be this.

Just like Sir Ed, he was the best of us. RIP big fella.

RIP Sir Colin. Seemed as good a person off the field as he was on it.

I had to drive for a few hours through the Waikato today and back to my farm. It was the middle of the day and 90% of the cars had their headlights on, it took me a while to realise it was like a funeral procession, like a tribute. It was a surreal experience - all these random kiwis connected by the loss of one of our greats.

This was a tough one for me. Meads, Hillary, Lomu all gone now. Richie needs a safer job or I'll have no heroes left!

One of the first memories I have is my dad throwing a rugby ball, which my gran had knitted, and shouting "Catch it like Pinetree, catch it like Pinetree"
A real legend. RIP Colin

Hard as nails? Yes, but occasionally took it too far. Seem to remember almost ripping some ones leg off in a Murn rayfield game
also he broke his neck in a car crash and when he woke up a couple of days later with a full body cast on he broke the cast trying to get out of bed to go tend to his sheep

His armed was fractured during a game and in true Pinetree style he continued playing.

later he said "at least we won the bloody game"
