Post Toulon going for Savea
Having lost Radradra to Bdx, Toulon are reported as going for Julian Savea, .....good for him... he either gets a gazzump or a move, either way a benefit to his future
It should be said that Savea is currently out of favour with AB selection, but a loss nevertheless ...
It is in french but merely states the intention ...

Him going just saves everyone a problem, he has little chance to be an ab again. I’d guess even the hurricanes will benefit if he goes, I’d rather have Aso over him.

How did Savea fall so out of favour with the All Blacks in the first place? It wasn't so long ago he was terrorising the French in particular.

Form. He’s been average for a few years now. So many young, explosive options coming through.

A v impressive record and was omitted from AB squad in Aug last year which wasn't long ago.

Only 27 year old and I think that you may be missing the point Loosie given the recent well publicised concern expressed by the AB hierarchy concerning exodus and the example that it sets and intent to prevent escalation etc

This is quite an example should it happen which is only tentative at the mo.

Mate, missing what point? He’s been average for ages, some say extremely lucky to be starting on his super team, so probably knows his days are numbered, so going north to secure his future. Good for everyone, especially Aso.

I know you’re going to tell me that the sky is falling on NZ rugby again, but bro, I’m still exactly the same yesterday as I am today concerning players leaving NZ. He’s not a star player anymore, not even close. If Ben Smith was leaving I’d be a bit more concerned, but even then he’s getting on so no worries.

Not even a starter for the canes anymore, dropped from the blackness again. Perfect time to head north, nothing left for him in the south anymore. Good luck to him, served NZ and the canes well.

Fair well bus, hope he rips it up up there.

I hope NZ rugby can deal with such a monumental loss. :D

;)

As reported and debated, NZRFU executive formally on record as very concerned about potential player losses.
Even considering setting up 'alliance' relations with Aviva Clubs to allow sabaticals without losing NZ selection status.

It's a scourge for french rugby too but there are early signs of a burgeoning younger crop of french players and as reported the Savea signing is causing exit for some excellent non french qualified players, in this case in Toulon, in order to comply with tightening Jiff regs.

It is reported here that Ioane is about to sign a new long term NZ contract which amounts to 600k euros per annum, relative chicken feed for such a player in N Hemp :angry4:

It is a pain for NZ and those that care about a virile National representation in the Franglais camp.

Although losses can promote opportunities for the production line in NZ the NZRFU concern is real
and this transfer shouldn't just be sarcastically commented on?

I think we both know and understand that NZ are losing players, it’s the impact where we seem to be getting confused. The NZRFU has always been mindful of the fact that players will leave, that’s obvious and they’d be shocking at what they do if they didn’t know that already. It’s the reason they are looking for alliances up north, which imho is a smart move(if it happens). They can’t afford to equal the NH $ so have no other choice but to find other carrots to dangle, again, nothing new.
After the last 2 WC wins the media, NH fans and scribes have all said we will take a hammering player stocks wise, yet we are in the healthiest state we’ve ever been in. Savea is going because he has no chance of playing for the ABs. He is not even close to being a star anymore. It most definitely can be sarcastically commented on because it’s not a big move.
After the WC next year, it’ll be interesting to see who moves on, I can’t see many big moves but I guess time will tell.

Facts are Aso had a number of injury issues and his form has never returned enough to secure him a place back with the AB's.

If he wanted by the AB he wouldn't be going.

While some may say it's a worry losing players to the NH it is not a new scenario and the AB level of play has not suffered as a result.

Aso is a great guy and the NZRU and rugby supporters wish him well as he prepares to secure a financial future for his family.

PI players are expected to provide financially for their parents, extended whanau and often their village in the Islands even though they have never lived there.
