Post Montpelier fail audit?
The audit function DNACG have called Mop to task for apparently exceeding salary cap for 2016/2017 Season.
The estimated amount is 400k above the 10m limit.

Fine would be in the region of 4 times the excess.

Clubs do find ways to sidestep some excesses e.g manipulation of image rights has been cited in the past.
This seems to be a straightforward excess spend.

Billionaire Altrad involved in some other debates at the mo.

Toulon also under scrutiny for salary cap abuse.

Now reported that the fine could be up to 10 times the excess....

Methinks that Altrad and Boudjellal will just pay whatever fine is asked of them and then the merry-go-round shall continue.

Boudjellal can't afford it.

The audit function also have powers to limit squad size and refuse contracts and budgets.

The penalty in question is just the specific one regarding that obligation.

There are others of a more general aspect that can be applied.

Just curious Tel, do you think anything will change? I mean, will they be heavily punished and used as a message for the other clubs? Or as the fella with the medical name says, they’ll pay the bill and not on like nothing has happened?

A potential penalty for 4m euros would be considerable.

It's not just the penalty though there is increasing evidence of National Sporting clampdown on the apparent level of decadence of the Rugby Executive.

There are now legal proceedings on some of the dealings. In other aspects we are talking about local government subsidy where there is a EU maximum of 2.3m and there have been some reported irregularities on that issue.

That then becomes significant control at that level.

It should also be remembered that the audit function DNACG also have other powers they can prevent contracts or limit size of squad or even demote down to other divisions ...that's a very strong deterrent. Enforced relegation is exacted fairly regularly.

So ... it's not just pay the fine and continue ;)

-------------------------------------------------------------

Pro Rugby can be pretty smelly but on the other hand it can be good...

Racing under President Lorenzetti have had a lot of investment BUT ...he and his business has benefited too ... it is mutually beneficial.

He closed a 350m real estate deal in the business suburbs of Paris. Within that he has provided Racing with one of the best indoor Rugby stadiums in the world that was an integral part of the sale and was also a business venue for 24/7 usage and a theatrical complex that is the most modern in Europe.

He furthers his wine interests in Asia using Hong Kong as a forefront and Rugby is involved in that too ... Japan W Cup will be a big target and will benefit his business, rugby and Japanese interests at the same time.

Also, Racing have one of the biggest % french players, Racing this Season has produced more french representatives to the National team.

Ok, this is the other end of the spectrum but it ain't all bad and there is ultimately control and sensible Rugby/Business benefit.

Montpelier and Toulon are totally different profiles, Altrad the Mop President is a billionaire with interests in 150 countries. Boudjellal sold his comic business and is now concentrating almost purely on the Toulon business. He is rich but way down the ladder of millionaires. He has succeeded by joint enterprises and a significant buy in by local Govt where the Rugby is considered a huge asset to the town.

Loosie, Ive taken some time to try and answer your Q because it is a lot more diverse and positive/negative than some of the 'tasty' gossip and significant affairs might suggest. ;)
