Post TOP 14 Round 18
Strange Round Top 14

Bottom feeder Agen beat Stade F away, Stade F rescued this Season fail again, another 1 euro buyout beckons? Their attendance was less than 6k, it is ski weekend in France but …..mighty are the fallen and their 80k bonanzas well buried.

Clermont lose at home to bottom Club Oyonnax!! Their gate slips to to 14k xref 18k average. Depite their very significant absences and injuries this is now becoming critical and Euro hopes aren’t high

Toulouse a BP win (pen try in last men) and some excellent tries but they leak in defence again against a bottom feeder

Mop win … boringly again

Castres on the up a powerful side without usual absences.

Pau improving … Manix Ugh! .. excuse me!

Interesting to see, comparatively new teams are burgeoning in results and support levels and good to see too .. Lyon, Pau, La Roc ...

La Roc lose to Toulon (3t to 2)…awful pen/conv kicking but, again .. lack of experience tells as Toulon use theirs. Bellau came on to very good effect.

Results here :

Don't Clermont contribute quite a lot to the French team (plus a few to other national teams?) Regarding European qualification: the new rules say that the team that makes it furthest in the Champions Cup without earning a spot through domestic league position earns the 20th spot. Atm apart from Clermont, all the teams that have made it to the Champions Cup QFs are in the top halves of their domestic leagues, so there is hope. But yes, losing to Oyonnax at home is certainly a major upset! (Mind you, the other week Exeter lost at home to Worcester, which is more-or-less on that level).

Racing have the most in Fra squqd

Clermont currently have Grosso, Vahaamahina and Slimani in this weekends ream, Ittuiria on the naughty step.

More importantly they have Parra, Lopez, Fofana, Penaud, Raka and Nakaitaci injured ...all in prime contention for Fra

But ... their strength in depth and home prowress should be more successful than it has been.

I think that they are nursing players and total emphasis has been on the Euro Champs ... but the team isn't the sum of the depleted parts.

Stade F is the worst case ....despite billionaire takeover they really are the pits in every respect.
