Top14 Round 5 results
Clermont not impressive in beating Racing and still recovering from poor start and La Roc thumping

Bordeaux excellent in beating Top team Montpelier ..Mop had a red but Bdx were superior throughout. They blow hot and cold ..21k + gate.

Agen unlucky in not getting at least a BP which they forfeited with an easy pen but went for the win in the last mins and came within inches of a try

La Rochelle wing their winning exciting rugby way and regular capacity crowd!

Tlse nearly lost it after having a good BP 3 try winning lead. They are much better this Season though.

Lyon on the up .. not high budget and only comparatively recently making the Top14 and in footy epicentre but backing potential could be huge. Coach Mignardi ex French 9 (Clermont etc and Coaching asst at Toulon) doing well and could mature into a top coach.

Toulon win in the last min despite scoring the only 3 tries of the and hence get an undeserved BP. It was an awful match riddled with errors, …Galthié had better watch out!

3 away wins

Championship Table Good to see the likes of Lyon and La Rochelle being very competitive and Toulouse back in reasonable form (12th in table last Season)

Brive buried at the mo.

Pau looking ok and have new capacity …

Good gates this round and again some high scoring games.

Don't want to go too off-topic, but how do you rate the Scarlets' chances versus Toulon and Ospreys' chances versus Clermont? From what I can tell, so far both Scarlets and Toulon have been good but not excellent, while both Ospreys and Clermont have been off-colour. Therefore, it'll be interesting to see who overcomes whom.

Too early.

Current comment, Clermont a shaky start but plenty of power and even given their strength in depth, certain key players in the mix for big games make a big difference. They always go for all competitions ... this year they will go even more for the Euro having at last won the Top14 Championship again.

Toulon, in my opinion, are below form despite winning.

Again, some big player presence makes a bi difference but the current team is in transition ... some excess of sell by date but, interestingly, there are some young french players coming through, just maybe ...the JIFF is having some effect.

finger in the air....currently .. Scarlets are in there with a distinct chance, Osps ... miles away.
