 Quite a stink at the mo ... There's a formal review of the 'status' of an apparent association between Laporte (ex Stade F Coach, Minister of Transport in Sarkosy govt, Dir of Rugby at Toulon and now new President of the FFR, in parallel he has held various business interests) and Billionaire Altrad, owner of Montpelier who also tried to takeover Gloucs etc. He's entered rugby and caused some some feathers to fly. He sponsored the French jersey during the 6 Nations +, had a contentious time over the sacking of Galthie that went to the industrial tribunal, he hired Jake White and has just replaced him with Cotter as well as his failed takeover of Gloucs by a PRL intervention...etc The FFR under Laporte has been in contention with the LNR and their President, Goze regarding several affairs one of the major of which has been significant privilege changes to the International squad, change of timetables and other. contentious affairs. In short, Club v Country authority and major governance has loomed large. Now the proverbial shit has hit the fan over a reported formal 'alliance' between Laporte and Altrad that was not well known. One of the key issues was that Altrad's Montpelier had a significant issue concerning a poatponed fixture with Racing during the Stade F/Racing affairetc. It is now being. discussed tbat perhaps Montpelier was treated favourably by the FFR in the issue. It has reached significant proportions and the Minister of Sport has charged the Sporting Function under which FFR operates to conduct a review. Some press is also suggesting that there may be a resignation result for Laporte. Not sure if the deciders on the 2023 is aware of all this. If they are it could spell trouble for France's bid. Certainly the Fr Sports minister kept a straight face in her presentation/promotion SA divided unhappy by many fans on politics in sport which are quota%s but to the contrary are very much united in their bid. ANC big wig Cyril Rhamaphosa is a business minded transparent guy with savvy unlike the current lot in power. Next to him Francois Pienaar and the other SARU guys Mark Alexander Jurie Roux. a Diverse lot but united in goal _________________ Have the Chinese ever won a rugby test? |

They certainly are aware ... President Macron is steering clear of it ... he was supposed to present in favour of it but it had to be postponed The affair is now being addressed by the National authority for general sport too.Others have shied away too. The terrorist incidence is the other concern against. However, they have secured the Olympics. It will cost Ireland a lot of money to upgrade ...

Re: 'there's something rotten in the state of french rugby' Ministry of Sport has now decided that the actions by Laporte should go to DPP equivalent to decide whether it should go to tribunal.
The activity involves preference shown to billionaire Altrad (owner of Monpelier etc) when Montpelier were indicted for bad behaviour v Racing but the 'sentence' was reduced. It was conducted whilst the french squad was training there at their HQ in prep for the 6Ns...
