Post Snooker - Ronnie gets lucky
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/42267931

An extraordinary display from Ronnie last night saw him escape from the clutches of world number 84 Sunny Akani by way of the most unlikely piece of bad luck that you're likely to see.

Sunny played way above his ranking, which is fair enough as he's only been in the pro game for 5 minutes.

2-0 became 5 - 4 and then came the decisive moments.

Sunny had Ronnie by the throat and only needed to choose the right shots to win a massively deserved victory.

The blue was on the rail behind the brown spot and needed to be moved for Sunny to triumph ...

Green was potted in the yellow corner pocket and the cue ball rolled seemingly perfectly into the blue, which was a damn shame as it was a touch heavy in pace.

The blue was tight against the rail and rolled towards the brown corner pocket - and fell in.

*b@ll@cks*!

The green and blue were re-spotted and Ronnie cleared up ..

Both men were smiling in disbelief as they sat down to recover .....

I was incredulous; what a cruel game snooker can be .....

Ronnie went on to win 5-6.

And, maintaining his good form, Ronnie wins the UK as well.

His opponent collapsed into missing gimmees for school children at one stage and the last 5 frames were gone ........

Ronnie O'Sullivan equalled Steve Davis' haul of six UK Championship titles by beating Shaun Murphy 10-5.

O'Sullivan also drew level with Stephen Hendry's 18 'Triple Crown' titles of the World, UK and Masters events.

Today sees the start of the next round of the Home Countries Tournaments.

Channel 37 is providing coverage.

Ronnie ran out of puff last night.

Higgins kept on coming and he steamrollered Ronnie.

Not often you see Ronnie whitewashed ....

Quote:
John Higgins whitewashed Ronnie O'Sullivan in a ranking event for the first time in 23 years to reach the Scottish Open semi-finals.

The Scot rattled in three consecutive century breaks - 109, 117 and 105 - to open up a 4-0 interval lead.

'The Rocket', who has won three ranking titles recently, rallied briefly but a 72 break from Higgins sealed a 5-0 win.

Higgins will next face Neil Robertson, who beat China's Xiao Guodong 5-4, while Judd Trump beat Stephen Maguire.

O'Sullivan, who has won the English Open, Shanghai Masters and UK Championship in the last two months, paid tribute to his opponent's superb performance.

"John's a class act; an amazing player, unbelievable," he said. "He's got touch, skill, power - he's got everything. If you were going to build a snooker player, you would build John.

"He played fantastically well. No excuses .............."
