Post Mark Selby beaten by brilliant Brecel

This evening game was great to watch.

Selby was almost comatose in the afternoon game, but he won anyway after his opponent gifted him the last frame with a missed pot.

Travelling back from half way around the world in the previous couple of days had left Selby in what seemed a state of near collapse at first. He was much better in the evening game and raised a laugh when he asked if his chair was a recliner!

Having recovered physically, if not mentally perhaps, he gave Brecel, one of the most fluent potters in the game, a real test.

I thoroughly enjoyed the match as Brecel was at his best after a nervous start and finally took the honours 6-4 after a mini recovery - as per usual - by his illustrious opponent.

Selby has lost to Luca Brecel before according to the commentators and the Belgian's ability to move the cue ball around and pot almost anything and everything is remarkable.

The tournament's on ITV and well worth a look when Brecel's in action. Jud Trump was overwhelmed earlier in the day.

Brecel is facing Shaun Murphy tonight. He's got a job on.

However, you could say that Ronny's going well ...

He beat Robertson in less than 90 minutes in his group semi-final, with a 134 to end the match.

In the group final he met Higgins, a match many expected to go down to the wire. But O’Sullivan stormed to a 4-0 lead at the mid-session, his best break at that stage an 81 to win the third frame in just 6 minutes 47 seconds.

The Masters champion continued where he left off after the break, a 101 clearance seeing him move to a 5-0 lead before recording the tournament’s highest break so far, 138, for a place in the last four.

Ronny squashed Hamilton last night - solid as a rock. 6-2 and more centuries for the maestro.
