Post India v England - 5th Test
The place looks normal, which is remarkable after Chennai was sopping after a cyclone blew through the other day.

Cook took an hour to score 10 and then left. Jenning was there for 25 minutes, scoring a single before chasing a wide one.

Root came in and has fought his way to 44* with Moeen riding his luck to score 7* in two minutes under an hour. Moeen was dropped on nought and is fighting like crazy as well, his dead bat is a heartening sight.

11,000 runs for Cooky btw. He's had the cares of the world on his shoulders and has ploughed on manfully this last year despite Vaughan's criticism at every turn.

68 for 2, this is not going to be pretty.

India lost the toss, I repeat, India lost the toss.

Batsmen out first? Hmmm?

The ball pitches outside leg by a foot. Massive appeal.

The ball then pitches a couple of inches outside leg. Massive appeal and the decision was reviewed.

Fupping Hell, if that isn't intimidation of the Umpire and batsman what is?

Fielders screaming and then shouting as the batsman defends.

Howls of agony now?

I can't listen to this shit.

Bye.

This is one of the reasons I have always found the phrase "Honest Indian" an ironic one. ( I know it is not intended at them)

I played a lot of cricket with and against Indians and I never met an honest one. ;). When playing league cricket against an Indian team we used to pay for neutral umpires in order to get some integrity into the game.

I could never allow the ball to hit my pads when batting, even if bat first, and had little chance of getting an LBW when bowling.

Cheating at cricket is germane to them in cricket at least.

After the game they were charming and excellent hosts..

England recover to 288-4 but will need more than 400 to be competitive. Cook needs a break and Root should take over as captain.

Aye, Cook's pondering that as he says Root is ready.

Buttler's in as Stokes went immediately this morning.

Moeen just knocked one up in the air - top edge - but the ball fell short of any fielder.

292 for 5, massive appeal. Moeen was lucky there.

Buttler was hit just outside the line - not out on review.

That was close, no bat on it.

Moeen looks on - he's scored 126 runs?

Buttler was plumb. Absolutely helpless. Sharma loves it.

300 for 6

Here comes a batsman who hasn't batted for a while.

Enter the gladiator.

Welcome Mr. Dawson.

Fiery sounds very hoarse ...

BANG, hit in the head. Dawson blinks.

Here's Fiery - "not so many knocks on the head before helmets".

Physio's out.

Moeen hit a six and a four last over he faced but Ashwin has him groping.

Once, twice - that went straight on and Moeen was helpless.

Runs, good.

Ashwin to Dawson.

Dawson comes forward.

Next ball is swept down nicely.

312 for 6

Stunning fielding from India!!

Moeen is caught short as the ball whistles past the stumps.

The bowler out in the deep threw it in, "The ball flew in like a missile!" says Henry.

Quote:
Moeen keeps his hook shot down but is almost run out by a bullet-like throw from Jadeja that misses the stumps at the striker's end by a whisker

Not sure ball by ball narrative is useful..
