It rains - and the cream rises to the top, LE.

That was enthralling.

Forecast for Monza today = 25 degrees, no rain and only light winds.

The Ferraris will be busting a gut to get the podium places they want.

Given the multiple penalties across many teams for various changes etc

The Grid is a complete 'melange' other that Hamilton 1 alongside Stroll Williams for goodness sake !

I would expect chaos at the start! ...

Mercedes dominate!
Hamilton/Bottas 1,2
Vettel gets 3rd under pressure from a super race by Ricciardo.
Verstappen in kissing problems again but scrapes a point.
Occon beats Perez and Williams get valuable points.

A pretty boring affair.

One now awaits McLaren change to Renault with downstream implications on drivers.

Yep, that seemed inevitable - but it didn't happen.

One of the great processions from beginning to end. The Italian crowd couldn't even bring themselves to cheer until Vettel lifted his 3rd place trophy to the sky ...

It did take one of the major drivers out ...Verstappen and Perez had probs..

The important result was a procession but despite what I said above about overall boring ... Ricciardo was, again, superb and came through the field and nearly caught Vettel.
Occon and Perez were nip and tuck etc

Pathetic Palmer did it again, he's out as soon as Renault and McLaren get their act together.

I totally agree with you about the Italian crown ... hardly sporting !

I was intensely interested for about 5 laps, Tony. 3 at the start and a couple at the end.

Having genuinely thought that Ferrari would rise to the challenge, I was genuinely surprised that their effort was so feeble. It was Monza FFS!!

Anyway, Lewis broke a few records and I was happy for him.

P.S. Palmer with a bit less gob - If he can shut up for a minute or two - would be more interesting.

He's got real competition for Young Driver these days as it isn't just Verstappen who's looking good.

Palmer will be out of F1 in my opinion.

He's got zero chance of young driver accolade !

Verstappen is already established amongst the best and Occon is quickly heading there.

Palmer has blown his opportunity.

Yep, that looks to be a real possibility now.

Damn shame.

Weekly Gossip :-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/41155329

Sainz is moving to Renault and that'll start a domino cascade of other changes.

Singapore is Red Bull's best chance of a win purely on their own merits.

Etc., etc.

Quote:
This week sees Lewis Hamilton putting himself forward to sample Pirelli's 2018 compounds at the Paul Ricard Circuit this week.

Much has been made of the fact Hamilton opted against taking part in Pirelli's extensive mule car programme last year, designed to prepare the Italian manufacturer's wider tyres for the new regulations.

Quote:
By contrast, current title rival Sebastian Vettel made use of the opportunity on numerous occasions last year, something many in the paddock think has helped to give the German and Ferrari a small edge in this year's championship fight.

Mercedes has struggled to extract the maximum from its tyres at times this season, struggling at places like Sochi and Monaco.

Quote:
Though usually adverse to the idea of testing, Hamilton has volunteered himself to be at the wheel of Mercedes' run at Paul Ricard -- the venue of the returning French Grand Prix next year -- later this week.

"I'll be doing a test later this week, which is very rare for me, I'm not a tester," Hamilton said. "I'm looking forward to it, I offered to do it, so I'm looking forward to that - kind of."

Lewis. and Mercedes F1, seem to be taking their chance to identify and act on the characteristics of next year's rubber.

Seems sensible and I'm sure it'll help next season.

It's going to be a walk in the park for Alonso next season compared to the shambolic engines he's had to contend with for the last few years.

Back to Practice 2 :-

1. Daniel Ricciardo 1:40.852 and 33 Laps
2 Max Verstappen 1:41.408 +0.556s 28

3 Lewis Hamilton 1:41.555 +0.703s 36
4 Valtteri Bottas 1:42.104 +1.252s 35

5 Nico Hulkenberg 1:42.448 +1.596s 33
6 Stoffel Vandoorne 1:42.501 +1.649s 34
7 Fernando Alonso 1:42.788 +1.936s 32

Ferrari have a problem or two.
