Ricciardo showed it wasn't a fluke to lead the Practice 1 session as he led Practice 2 as well, even if he was on heavy fuel on the super-soft tyre rather than the soft.

Session P2

1. Ricciardo - Red Bull - 00:01:18.455

2. Vettel - Ferrari - 00:01:18.638

3. Bottas - Mercedes - 00:01:18.656

4. Raikonnen - Ferrari - 00:01:18.755

5. Hamilton - Mercedes - 00:01:18.779

6. Verstappen - Red Bull - 00:01:18.951

7. Hulkenburg - Renault - 00:01:19.714

8. Alonso - McLaren - 00:01:19.815

9. Sainz - Toro Rosso - 00:01:19.834

10. Vandorne - McLaren - 00:01:19.909

It was still slippery :-

Quote:
The session was stopped twice because of accidents involving Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein and Renault's Jolyon Palmer.

Wehrlein suffered a heavy crash at Turn 11. The German was taken to the medical centre for a routine check and given the all-clear.

Palmer then crashed for the second time in the day, shortly after the 2nd session was re-started, losing the rear on the entry to the final corner and sliding into the barriers.

The Red Bull drivers have the best balance, TP. The Red Bull chassis is superlatively good

Saying that, I can't look further than a Hamilton, Vettel, Raikonnen, Bottas top 4 under normal circumstances.

If it rains at the Hungaroring, the Red Bulls will be better than the Ferraris.

As the weather forecast is 32/33 degrees and sunny with light winds, that Merc/Ferrari domination should continue.

Do you think we'll have more offs in practice? It was slippery yesterday.

Looks like Ferrari are strong ... difficult to judge because of updates (quite a lot here at Hungary)

Paul de reitza (Sp?) the scot in the ca for Massa at Williams who is ill was once Air India driver ... never driven the car before

Qualifying just started

Ferrari 1, 2

Vettel/Raikonen
Bottas/Hamilton
Verstappen/Ricciardo

Track very difficult to overtake and with Raikonen as Vettel's guard looks ominous for the Mercs

Deretza(Sp?) did well but 19th ... improved considerably in his 4 laps ...well done!

Hamilton had mechanical problems and Ferrari took the front row.

Quite how Mercedes failed to balance the tyres on 44 not once but twice ...

Ho, hum.

It should be a runaway victory for Ferrari, TP.

But it's not that sort of circuit really.

Let's hope it's not a procession.

Lotsa praise for Massa's replacement - the lad did well.

The set up of the car is as much the drivers responsibility as the team. He didn't have 'mechanical problems' in my opinion ... they didn't set it up well enough to beat the 3 in front.

Only possibility tomorrow is tyre and race strategy to undercut his rivals but Botttas will have the 'rights' there ...that's the way the Merc team operate ...

Raikonen will ensure Vettel gets all the protection needed.

Flags or safety car can have an influence too on tyre chsnges etc ...

Looks a pretty boring outlook though.

Could be boring on that circuit, true enough.

Hamilton putting on his own tyres? I'd love to see that!!

:D :D

Bouch, the set up of the car is the balance and optimum performance to fit the circuit where the tyre aspect is dominant.

The driver is central to that event,

Your facetiousness is ill founded as usual

A little humour hardly ever comes amiss, TP.

I'd say something amusing here but I'll restrain myself.

;)

Lewis is definitely downbeat over his chances of winning today :-

Vettel (troubled car)
Raikkonen
Bottas (given back 3rd after Hamilton had been given a chance to beat the Ferrari's)
Hamilton
Verstappen (took Ricciardo out on start)
Alonso!! McLaren back in business other car in pts too. Alonso got fastest lap.

Summary

Track one .. too many inhibitions to truly make a race of it?
Verstappen is fast and ruthless .. as we already now.
Good to see McLaren back in some contention .. Alonso still as good as anybody?

Entertaining but frustrating.

Vettel goes 14 pts ahead of Hamilton.

Hot headed and stupid some might say hehe, he's off to apologise to Ricciardo...
I did enjoy him calling out Vettel as a hypocrite before the race though :D

I heard Hulkenberg and Magnusson had a word with each other after the race too :D
