Austrian Grand Prix - Spielberg, 7-9 July

This one will be a key indicator for the Drivers Championship, even with a dozen races left.

Should Vettel get another load of points and extend his lead further, he may well be out of reach.

Personally, I believe that Hamilton can't afford many more, if any, weird technical problems.

1. Sebastian Vettel - Ferrari - 3 wins - 153 points

2. Lewis Hamilton - Mercedes - 3 wins - 139 points

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Constructors Championship

1. Mercedes - 250 points

2. Ferrari - 226 points

Austrian Grand Prix today.

Shortest track and plenty of corners ....

Hamilton incurs a gearbox change penalty to a pit start translated into 9th place after a poor 3rd place qualifying.

Bottas on pole and Vettel joins him on the front grid.

Start could be dramatic especially with the likes of Verspatten down the field.

Could be worth a watch?

1min 4 seconds is a little ridiculous, buzzing around like that. But the fans at the track don't have to wait long to see their favourite cars again :D

A shambolic weekend for Lewis as his luck seems to be all bad at the moment.

He was 5th after a handful of laps but he only advance one more place by the end.

Bottas was very, very good and just made the chequered flag first with Vettel's Ferrari poised to overtake by the last bend it seemed.

Great to watch, of course, and Vettel actually winning was a very real possibility in those last 2 laps.

British GP, Silverstone - the owners have served notice that they're too poor to pay the contracted amount and they're off into the wilderness unless Berny's contract price is reduced.

I'm not surprised, not even a little bit.

Having visited the place by car and by bus, the only way to get there sensibly was by helicopter and that is horrendously expensive.

Quote:
The owners , the British Racing Drivers' Club, says it cannot afford to host the race after 2019 unless a new deal is agreed.

They might be able to negotiate a new deal with the new F1 hierarchy.

Luck with that.

Bottas has suffered the same gearbox problem that hit his team-mate at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend.

Mercedes have changed the gearbox and, as it has not done the requisite six races, that means an automatic penalty.

The team say the problem is now "understood and contained".

PRACTICE TWO RESULTS

1 Valtteri Bottas 1:28.496
2 Lewis Hamilton 1:28.543 +0.047s
3 Kimi Räikkönen 1:28.828 +0.332s
4 Sebastian Vettel 1:28.956 +0.460s
5 Max Verstappen 1:29.098 +0.602s

It was a stonking race - well the last 20 minutes was ...

It's the Mercs who go public on their tyre problems but the Ferrari cars are clearly marginal on the high speed circuits.

That's a surprise given where they call home.
