https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/headlines/2017/10/qualifying---vettel-snatches-mexico-pole-from-verstappen.html

Pole Sebastian Vettel Ferrari 1:16.488

2 Max Verstappen Red Bull Racing 1:16.574
3 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 1:16.934
4 Valtteri Bottas Mercedes 1:16.958

This could be a blinding race.

Hamilton to win his 4th title with Verstappen and Vettel to have a ding dong battle until the Ferrari blows up?

Bottas is barely a heartbeat behind and the prospect of mechanical failures is looming over this race.

Vettel and Hamilton touch at the start and Hamilton loses out ....however Vettel has to get 2nd ...now at 4 with 10 laps to go ...Raikkonen will cede his 3rd place but he has to catch Bottas in 2nd, Verstappen leading all the way...

Meanwhile Hamilton can gain points and erode Vettels chance and get the Champ status.

Fascinating races beyond winning it! :D

Vettel didn't get punished for smacking into Verstappen's car wheel to wheel, which was fair enough - then Vettel smacked into the back of Hamilton's car and should have been punished for that.

Vettel didn't get punished, naturally, and he gained time on Hamilton as he didn't have to limp around the circuit with a flat tyre.

Hamilton is WORLD CHAMPION again, which is nice.

Post Re: Formula One in 2017
The FIA are looking to make car engines less expensive and fairer, so they've proposed changes that will generate massive costs.

Have a boggle at this - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/41833948

What are the proposed new rules?

The FIA and commercial rights holders Liberty Media have proposed keeping the current engine architecture of a 1.6-litre turbo V6 hybrid but removing one of the two hybrid elements, increasing the power of the other, introducing driver-controlled hybrid deployment and standardising a series of parts.

Their aim is to reduce costs, improve the quality of the racing and the sound created by the engines, and enable independent companies to come into F1 and compete with the car manufacturers as engine suppliers.

Quote:
Why do Mercedes and Renault object?

Wolff said he was "surprised" that the FIA had published so much detail on the new engine when the manufacturers had been told in a meeting on the same day that the plans were "a proposal of a vision for 2021" that would be subject to further discussion and refinement at F1's various rule-making entities.

He added: "It portrays it in a way of this is how we're going forward and none of the current OEMs (car manufacturers in F1) was particularly impressed."

He said the proposals as published would mean "developing a new engine concept that will trigger immense costs" for the car manufacturers in F1 - Mercedes, Ferrari, Renault and Honda - "just for the sake of having a new concept".

"The new concept needs to tackle the deficit that has been outlined - development costs and noise level - and all that needs to be linked with a global view of F1," Wolff said. "We haven't seen any of that."

Abiteboul concurred, saying that Renault objected to being "presented with a new engine on which we would have to make substantial development and substantial financial commitment without an understanding of the broader picture of what F1 would look like past 2020. And I'm referring to not just engine regulations but chassis regulations as well as the commercial side of F1."

He added that Renault "approved of the targets that have been set in terms of cost, noise and power, and the fact we need to try to make performance continue to converge". But he said: "Those are things that could have been done with the current engine architecture anyway."

Honda and Ferrari, the other two engine manufacturers in F1, have declined to comment.

The American, Asian and European car engine manufacturers, and the Australian companies of course, will need to get started now and the FIA might just be busy boys for the next few years.

More engine noise?

Yeah, certainly true that, mon brave.

The other webside I use has a slightly different slant.

Quote:
“Today was a key step in the development of the Power Unit regulations for 2021," added Peter Bayer, FIA Secretary-General for Sport. "The FIA has been working with the Commercial Rights Holder to define a positive step forward for these regulations which maintain Formula One’s place at the pinnacle of motor sport technology whilst addressing the key issues facing the sport such as cost, road relevance and fan experience at the racetrack. We felt it was important to bring the teams into the discussions today and explain the direction we are taking and I’m pleased with the response we have received.”

In the spirit of the widest possible cooperation, a series of meetings will now commence with all the interested parties to discuss and develop the proposals.

You have to wish him luck.
