Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has joined Russian Premier League side Zenit St Petersburg for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half year deal. Even though the English transfer window closed on Tuesday night, Premier League clubs can sell to teams in countries whose window remains open, such as Russia.

Quote:
Serb Ivanovic, 32, joined the Blues in January 2008 from Lokomotiv Moscow and played 377 times for the club.

He has winners' medals for the Champions League, Premier League (twice), FA Cup (three times) and League Cup, and scored the winning goal in the 2013 Europa League final.

Ivanovic scored for Chelsea in his final appearance, Saturday's 4-0 FA Cup win over Brentford.

Quote:
Chelsea captain John Terry paid tribute to his team-mate, describing Ivanovic as a "legend". 

Terry added, "Bran was an unbelievable defender for us over the years and a great and big character and presence in the dressing room."

One of the very best defenders was Bran - superb.

One of my favorite players, could play anywhere in defense. Chelsea legend.

Chelsea tightened their grip on the Premier League title race and delivered a blow to Arsenal's aspirations with a convincing victory at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Arsene Wenger, watching from the stands as he served the third of a four-match touchline ban, was hoping Arsenal could respond to Tuesday's shock home defeat by Watford - but Chelsea imposed their superiority to leave the Gunners 12 points behind the leaders.

Chelsea 3 - 1 Arsenal (Giroud (90'+1minutes)

Alonso (13'minutes),
Hazard (53'minutes),
Fàbregas (85'minutes).

Chelsea - 59 points - Solid and dependable. A few more goals would come in handy.

Spurs - 50 - One injury to a key defender and Spurs will be done. If Kane stays fit, they'll be close.
Man City - 49 - The hiccup has been and gone, they're a real contender again.
Arsenal - 47 - Sliding time for Vanker's boys. They've done this before and over and over and over again.
----------------
Liverpool - 46 - Their defence is shockingly poor. Klopp has to pull his team, and himself, together.
----------------
Man Utd - 45 - Still chasing superbly well, but getting a hell of a lot of draws rather than wins.

The Great One has spoken of this :-

Quote:
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says certain members of his squad need to realise the importance of winning.

United are unbeaten in 15 Premier League games but have drawn 3 of their last four games. They are still sixth in the table after the last round of matches, unchanged since 6 November.

Quote:
"Playing to win, having the responsibility to win, and coping with the pressure of winning is something that has to belong to your natural habitat," said Mourinho, "For some guys, (it isn't)."

Mourinho did not name any individuals but he said his squad contains players who "need time to go out of a comfort or a protected zone where they don't think the aim is to win".

Hmmm.

Arsenal‘s official Twitter account failed to even mention Cesc Fabregas‘ name when the midfielder scored for Chelsea in their 3-1 victory at the weekend.

Fabregas, now 29-years-old and in his 2nd, or is it 3rd year?, with Chelsea, came on as a sub and scored almost immediately against Vanker's losers, and, to make matters worse, Fabregas’ superb lob to make it 3-0 in the 85th minute came courtesy of a howler from ex-Chelsea hero Petr Cech.

Cech was mentioned in the Arsey Twitter account of the beating.

Chelsea held on for a 1-1 draw last night after scoring inside 10 minutes.

Burnley did their usual fighting like dogs but a new signing gave them extra class with Brady hitting a snorter of a free kick into the top left hand corner.

Chelsea's away form in the Premier League is unrivalled but Burnley are tough at home with 29 of the Clarets' total of 30 points collected coming at Turf Moor.

Standings

Chelsea - 25 games and 60 points.

Spurs - 50 points
Arsenal - 50 points
Liverpool - 49 points
-----------------------
Man City - 49 points
-----------------------

Man Utd - 48 points - That's the Mourinho Factor and they are catching up rapidly to Spurs and Arsenal.

Quote:
Mourinho, known for trying to engage in mind games with his rivals, said his former team will not slip up because they win with "counter attacks".

"He's playing," said Conte, who is in his first season as Chelsea manager, "I have the experience to understand this."

If United can score 17 goals, without conceding any, in their next 6 games in the League they'll have caught up with Chelsea's goal difference, unless Chelsea can score a few themselves in that time......

Interesting draw for the FA Cup quarter final :-

◾Chelsea v Manchester United

◾Middlesbrough v Huddersfield or Manchester City

◾Tottenham v Millwall

◾Sutton/Arsenal or Lincoln

Manchester United scored two sumptuous goals yesterday and Chelsea have no players to match Rashford, Pogba and Ibrahimovitch. We might have the edge in defence though .....

Good video

United haven't beaten Chelsea in something like 15 games

Think the last time was 5 years ago

So I think we all know how this ones going to go.

You have tremendous strikers, Prys.

Are you trying to give Manchester United the underdog tag?

Tut, tut.

:D

Team in 1st v team in 6th and of course our fantastic record v Chelsea over the years....

I'd say we're very much underdogs

Ibrahimovic is the only consistent forward we have these days, Rashford went on a run of three months without a goal not long ago and Rooney is shit.

Bobby Charlton doesn't think Roo is shit.

Oh, and Rashford is scoring again.

Claiming the richest club in the world is the underdog ...

:D

Bobby Charlton was also a failed manager...

Not sure what being the richest club has to do with a one off fixture

Chelsea are clearly a better side than United at this moment.

But I'd guess that neither do you.
