Post Re: Chelsea FC
Chelsea murdered a sloppy and aggressive Arsenal very easily today.

Wenger sent out his kids to kick lumps out of Chelsea in the first half and they were 2-0 down at half time.

A change of personnel was required at half time and Wenger did that.

Chelsea scored again and at 3-0 Arsenal were down and out with more than 30 minutes left to play.

Another stream of fouls from Arsenal saw Chelsea send for subs at 65 minutes or so.

4 trotted on and Arsenal kicked them too. Arsenal had sent on a load of subs and only a magnificent foul on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area stopped Chelsea's attempt to score again very, very late on.

Giroud and the Wenger subs tried to get a consolation goal and their best efforts came after 84 minutes. They failed.

The game ended with Chelsea in possession after 3 minutes of extra time and Wenger must be wondering how many players he should have signed. This useless mob are not the answer this season.

Worst incident in the game.

Chelsea hit a long, high diagonal ball towards the left hand corner of the Arsenal box looking from the Chelsea end.

The Arsenal defender running back to the ball had been terrorised by Pedro again and again so the goalkeeper who started for Arsenal came thundering forward to smash into the converging players on the very edge of the Arsenal box.

The dive from the goalkeeper missed the struggling defender but the goalkeeper looked to have hit Pedro both with his arm/elbow and his shoulder.

The diminutive Pedro was poleaxed.

Questions arising :-

1. Did the collision occur outside the box or on the edge and did the goalkeeper punch the ball?
2. Is Pedro out of action for a few weeks?

I'll try to find a video later on.

Pedro: Chelsea winger to return to England after concussion

Chelsea's Pedro will return to England from the club's pre-season tour after he suffered concussion and facial injuries in a friendly 3-0 win over Arsenal in Beijing.

The 29-year-old was taken to hospital following a collision with Gunners goalkeeper David Ospina on Saturday.

The Charity Shield is underway.

Pedro is on and he's playing with a giant face mask.

The referee is going to need some help as this one is going to get warmer.

Chelsea got some stick from the pundits last night - Feller called Wright from Arsenal led the way - again.

A guy from the Daily Mail called the lads "Blue Fools" and he wasn't far off the mark.

Instant red for a bad tackle by the skipper and Fabregas had two yellows - the second of which should have been a straight red ...

The game was all over bar the shouting at halftime and in the last quarter we were all over Burnley like a rash. We only scored twice though, pity that.

3-2 at the death and the Burnley defence were a bit busy ...

Chelsea scored 3 times at Wembley yesterday; Spurs at their magnificent best completely dominated the game but didn't score at all despite two spirited attempts to crock Chelsea players and open up some space.

They didn't even get red cards from the supportive referee and the question must be asked - Is this the reason English Referees don't get big European games?

Anyway, Spur's passing was wonderful to see and they even hit the post once (Kane of course).

Chelsea also hit the post and missed a sitter.

How is that having so little possession - less than a half of Spur's 68% - can still result in Alonso scoring twice?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40914668

Chelsea's new £60m striker Alvaro Morata missed an easy headed chance in the opening minutes before Alonso's perfectly delivered free-kick gave Chelsea the lead after 24 minutes.

Spurs responded strongly with Harry Kane, who doesn't score in August, hitting a post and it looked like they had earned at least a point when substitute Michy Batshuayi headed Christian Eriksen's free-kick into his own net with eight minutes left.

However, as usual, the Blues showed trademark strength of character and power at the end, to secure a morale-boosting win after 88 minutes when Alonso scored his second, with Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris guilty of a serious error in allowing the shot to go underneath his body at the near post.

"We only have to think on the pitch," said Conte. "This moment is not easy for us but I am very happy to have this group of players because they showed me great commitment, desire and will to improve after a great season. We only need to focus on the pitch, outside does not matter for us".

"I want to thank my players - every one. I saw today the fighters. I'm very happy when I see this type of game. I'm not speaking about football, but this spirit, this heart, this desire."

For Spurs, who did not lose a Premier League game at home during 2016-17, the result means they have now lost seven of their past 10 games at Wembley, which will be their temporary home while awaiting completion of a new stadium at White Hart Lane.

Chelsea had no opposition yesterday, it was embarrassing to watch on times with Rooney looking lost and the Everton midfield looking totally out of sorts.

Snag is that Chelsea breaking through didn't mean a load of goals.

The Everton defence looked horrible, almost as bad as Arsenal's absentees, and Chelsea still scored only two goals.

It was poor stuff to be fair. The 2nd half was horrible.

Chelsea's goals :-

Fàbregas (27'minutes), a little flick that was simplicity itself.
Morata (40'minutes), good header.

Post Re: Chelsea FC
Chelsea have signed midfielder Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City for £35m and defender Davide Zappacosta has come from Torino on a four-year deal, the fee for that transfer has not been revealed as yet.

Drinkwater has been anxious to play for Chelsea and he's been capped 3 times for England. He might become a regular starter with Chelsea and wants to add to his one championship medal.

Zappacosta is a different proposition. He was capped by Conte with his first game for Italy in May 2016.

Davide has been capped four times by Italy and the 25-year-old full-back joined Torino from Atalanta in 2015, making 29 Serie A appearances with Torino last season.

He is a class act and his loyalty and his respect for Conte is well known.

Talking of respect, Chelsea's absentee centre forward is due back in the UK in the next week or so and Diego needs to play some football if he wants to get to Atletico. Let's hope he sees sense and gets on the plane.

Another win for Chelsea at Leicester on the weekend.

SAT, 9 Sept 2017 - Premier League

Leicester City 1 - 2 Chelsea

Vardy (62' pen) with Morata (41') and Kanté (50') scoring for us

Another headed goal for Alvaro Morata set us on our way. N'Golo Kante scored against former side Leicester and it rattled in from 25 yards or more, all along the ground.

Leicester scored from a penalty with half an hour left but were subdued and beaten very easily despite all their huffing and puffing towards the end.

Leicester have now lost six of their last seven home games against Chelsea and are now down to 17th ...

Chelsea had 16 shots at goal, double the opposition, and here's a stat that made me boggle :-

◾Only Andrea Belotti (10) has scored more headed league goals in Europe's big five divisions since August 2016 than Alvaro Morata (9).

Not bad, not bad at all.

The next League game is against Arsenal.

I wonder which goalkeeper they're going to put out?

Chelsea host Azerbaijani side FK Qarabag in the group stage of the Champions League group on Tuesday (19:45 BST) before a big Premier League match at home to Arsenal on Sunday (13:30).

FK Qarabag struggled a bit.

Chelsea scored a few very good goals and eventually knocked in 6 in all.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41216361

Quote:
Chelsea boss Conte hailed a "perfect start" to their Champions League return.

"To play the first game, then to win with a good result, to score many goals, to finish the game with a clean sheet - I saw a lot of positive things tonight," he said.

On his five changes, he said: "To play in the Champions League it means the coach trusts you. My message tonight was this: I trust all my players, not with only words, but with facts.

"If we think like last season to play with only 13 players, we are crazy. We have to improve all these players to try to create a positive competition between them."

Quote:
And he says the Blues will not rush Hazard back from his injury.

"We must have a bit of patience with him and to try to give the possibility for Eden to recover very well.

"We must be calm and to do the best for the player and for the team. Otherwise we risk a bad injury to delay the situation. This is the right way. This process is good for him."

The opposition manager said that Chelsea are now the favourites to win the competition.

Not quite perhaps as Juve were soundly beaten by Barcelona .... 3-plonk.

And the Big One.

Chelsea v Arsenal was very one sided according to the highlights.

Arsenal totally dominated and should have scored 2 or 3 goals at Stamford Bridge, they have now failed to score in eight of their past 14 trips to Chelsea.

Anyway, the Gunners didn't get a goal - and Chelsea lucked a scoreless draw, which wasn't according to the script at all.

Luis smashed into a Gunner, over the top of the ball, towards the end and he might just have more than 3 games for that.

Perhaps he was thinking of a Chelsea player having his face smashed in by Arsenal recently - or perhaps Luis wasn't thinking at all.

Arsenal must have played all their football in the first half as they only had marginally more possession.

I know one thing for sure - Aaron Ramsey was superb. What a player he is.

Chelsea played rather well last night but it looks like their recruitment and consequent production line of young players is not finding favour with FIFA, goshwottashock.

http://sport.bt.com/football/fifa-launches-investigation-into-chelseas-recruitment-of-youth-players-S11364214198680

“We can confirm that an investigation is ongoing, however please note that we cannot provide any details concerning the matters under investigation. We have no further comment,” a FIFA statement said.

I'll be looking for another investigation of FIFA in the months leading up to Christmas.

Oh, and Chelsea had three teenage British substitutes on the pitch :-

Ethan Ampadu, 17.
Jake Clarke-Salter, 19.
Dujon Sterling. He'll be 18 next month.
