Post spectator safety.
Cricket is becoming increasingly dangerous for spectators. Every time a batsmen strikes a six there is a danger that someone in the crowd will be hit a potentially fatal blow. T 20 games are particularly dangerous, and the most vulnerable are young children who may not be concentrating on the game, a head strike for them could prove fatal.

I am not sure if it is possible for cricket clubs to erect netting to protect spectators; I doubt it as this would probably interfere with their view. One idea would be for clubs to sell protective helmets in team colours and in various sizes, and insist that children wear them, and market them at cost price. Clubs could also hire them out for the duration of the game.

Something needs to be done and as soon as possible.

Of course 6's have always been a rarity at cricket matches, ask Malcolm Nash

Is this thread a wind up? I think it would be hilarious if someone who has nodded off in the members pavilion at Lords got twatted on the nonce. Yellow and red protective helmets all around. How many would they sell outside the ground? None is the answer.

You lot obviously do not have kids. Mark my word, there will be a fatality at a cricket match, and it will be sooner rather than later.
A cricket ball delivered at 80 m.p.h. plus can be projected at 150 m.p.h. off the bat. Make contact on a spectator's head and that will without any doubt prove fatal.

Not that many when you consider how many years cricket has been played

Why do you assume that everyone within at least catching distance of the ball is?:

1. not watching the game/ball
2. not going to intervene

....and also, when a 6 is hit the crowd reacts, that should focus all watching, people stand up, probably taller than the kids you mention hence provide a barrier.

In terms of risk, it's a Low-Medium, i.e. likelhood is very low but impact is high - acceptable risk.

Also, 150mph is overly optimistic, a 60mph ball will leave the bat at about 90mph.
