Post Ken Catchpole has passed on
Australia's Gareth Edwards has passed away.

Wallabies legend Ken Catchpole has died aged 78.

Ken, who played 27 Tests from 1961 including 13 as captain, is revered as one of Australian rugby’s greatest players.

The champion halfback began his career with Sydney club side Randwick, where he played more than 180 games and is considered one of their greatest players.

Known for his pace, accurate passing and clever opportunism, he rose to become a giant of the sport and was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2013.

He is among the youngest Wallabies skippers, taking up the role on his Test debut at 21 years and 354 days.

Rest in Peace, Ken.

Post Re: Ken Catchpole has passed on
I never saw Catchpole play as he was slightly a bit before my time, but whenever I used to go on about Edwards and John or Edwards and Bennett my old man used to wax lyrical about Catchpole and Hawthorne, he always said that they were the best half backs he had ever seen. and it was such a sad way to end his playing days....cough Pinetree cough
RIP Ken even if you caused many an argument in my family

Saw him play at C A P in 1966 ( I think ) when the Aussies surprisingly beat Wales. He partnered Phil Hawthorne at 10, and other players included J E Brass, J K Lenehan, and A Cardy. Also think it may have been debuts for Barry John and Gerald Davies.

R I P Ken, and sympathy to your family.
