10 years ago , the most brutal sacking in Welsh possibly world rugby, why was he so poor as a National coach.

Post Re: Gareth Jenkins
He was never as good as the interviewing panel thought he was.

Mind you, he was also never able to get his management skills up to scratch - and that despite his obvious rapport with the small number of Scarlets' players in the squad back then.

Given the huge number of WQ Scarlets internationals these days he might just be The People's Choice again these days.

I'd certainly give him a chance with the U-20s to see how he goes.

If it was brutal it was because he chose not to go quietly and with dignity.
It seems by accounts that he thought that he was the best man to continue as national coach both immediately before and after the sacking. I'd say delusion played a part.

About time we had a proper good Scarlet bashing thread. They're too good these days to knock them. They are - as Icey often used to boast - the Welsh flagbearers.
We can still have a pop at Gypo, though. :D

Hardly unfair or brutal. Jenkins was an average club coach over promoted well above his capabilities by the WRU who did their usual "jobs for the boys" recruiting policy. He was then too arrogant to admit he wasn't suited and making a terrible job of it and too arrogant to resign for the good of the game and the team.

If you want to see a brutal or unfair sacking, look how the same union treated Ruddock before him.

He didn't fall on it though did he, that was the problem.

Maybe he tried to fall on it and just missed it completely.
