Post Mcbride . Tight lipped on the thorny matter !
So why did he not play Keelan Giles on Wales tour ?
Why did he play a centre in his position ?
Any takers ?

I saw Keelan Giles up close when Wales played at Eirias. He's a titch. Can imagine the PI players would have eaten him for breakfast.

Based on the fact he was included in the Autumn internationals squad & 23 vs Japan, and played in the warmup game against RGC1404 - notwithstanding his performances for the Ospreys - I think it's reasonable to assume that Giles was genuinely in the management's plans and wasn't just there to make up the numbers of for the training.

It also seems reasonable to rule out outright injury - if that was the issue then McBryde would just have said so when asked.

He wasn't named in either 23 so it's also safe to rule out any last minute health issues (e.g. the "sickness bug" they apparently all got on Friday wasn't a factor, as that didn't rear its head until the day of the game, by which time we already knew he wasn't going to play).

He also didn't leave the tour and go home, so we can rule out issues like sudden family bereavement or personal issues.

Lastly, McBryde at least claimed that the decision wasn't Rugby-related, which at least in theory rules out the possibility that he somehow wasn't up to the grade. If he'd been left out in favour of another winger I'd be skeptical, but Corey Allen being played out of position would seem to bear this out.

Whatever the reason is, McBryde felt he couldn't say what it was when interviewed, which would seem to rule out most reasonable or trivial causes.

To my mind that leaves only two couple of possibilities, though I may be missing something obvious:

1 - Some kind of attitude issue or other conflict with the management and/or the rest of the squad players. The management have history in this regard e.g. their neglect of James Davies (and possibly with Tom James and Dan Evans, both of whom have suggested that they don't get along with management).
2 - Some kind of confidence or anxiety issue - after all he's still just 19; though for most of the season so far he has shown himself to be up to the rigors of top-level Rugby.

Perhaps, just perhaps RM wanted to win both games and felt that KG wasn't ready to play against this sort of opposition yet
Seeing as we won both games, the second in very trying circumstances I'm happy to go along with the coaches decision KG's time will come, but just not yet

Except RM picked him for the squad in the first place. Why do that if he wasn't ready? Unless I suppose he came to that view after watching him in training.

It's not like McBryde had a wealth of choice in the second test. Or indeed the first. I would be suprised if Cory Allen plays on the wing for Wales soon, amd I doubt he is seen as a long term choice on the wing. My suspricions are far less cynical, quite simply on Friday's game, McBryde thought that Cory Allen was a better choice for this match than anyone else. His game paid off as we won. Although it was a boring match.

Perhaps he came to that conclusion after being with him for 2 weeks how long have you spent with KG
Are you honestly saying you want to subject him to the sort of hit that Cory Allen had? It would have knocked him into next week and the week after

I agree with Spinbreath. He is very promising for sure, but his defence is weak and his physique is too small and fragile to cope that well against the PIs.

Does this mean he will have to wait until they play Lilliput?

So he's ready for international rugby as long as they don't play to rough, kind of thing.

If he's not ready to play against the PIs, why pick him in the squad?
