Pontypridd take their place in the quarter final round of the WRU National Cup with an away tie against Carmarthen Quins, to be played at Y Parc on Saturday 4th March kicking off at 2:30pm.

The sides have met twice in the league this season with honours shared, and victory claimed on each occasion by the home side. Carmarthen won at Y Parc back in late November by 32pts to 26, with Ponty gaining revenge at Sardis Road a month ago by 35pts to 14.

Pontypridd progressed through the previous rounds of the cup with an away win against Cardiff Met and a home win over Newport, whilst the Quins won a couple of West Wales derbies, at home to Newcastle Emlyn and away to Narberth.

A knee strain sustained by flanker Jake Thomas, added to previous injuries carried by Dan Godfrey and Owen Sheppeard, and with Rhys Shellard away on domestic leave, has limited Ponty's back row options. Into the breach steps Blues Academy hooker Liam Belcher to deputise at openside flanker. Promising no8 Gruff Lloyd from the ranks of Ponty Youth is given a place on the bench.

Returning from injury are prop Liam Bodman and flanker Dafi Davies, with hooker Ethan Coombes drafted in on permit from Beddau.

The Pontypridd team selected to face Carmarthen is as follows:

15.Gary Williams. 14.Lewis Williams. 13.Bradley Coombes. 12.Dafydd Lockyer - cpt. 11.Dale Stuckey. 10.Ceri Sweeney. 9.Wayne Evans.

1.Sam May. 2.Huw Dowden. 3.Mitch Auger. 4.Peter Sidoli. 5.Chris Dicomidis. 6.Dafi Davies. 7.Liam Belcher. 8.Hemi Barnes.

Subs: 16.Joel Raikes. 17.Callum Hall. 18.Joe Davies. 19.Ethan Coombes. 20.Gruff Lloyd. 21.A.N. Other. 22.Joe Popple. 23.Liam Bodman.

Being as most South Walians think the North starts at the head of the Valleys, it'll probably end up being somewhere like Merthyr.
