Hook is not a modern day outhalf, he is a centre, and I would say his best position is either 13, or 15.
I agree 100%, but would add that his lack of outright pace lessens his impact in both positions.

His lack of pace?

Betcha a dollar that Cap'n Bob and Foxy would blush if you told them that Hook was slow.

:D

My bet is that Hook is yards slower than Foxy. Roberts is an out and out 12 - pace isnt as important as power for him.

Hook makes two Gloucester tries as 'architect' and was 'sublime'. Thank god we have such a class player available for the RWC!!!

he ran at a broken defence and passed or kicked. Lots more required in the 10 shirt, generally Glaws were very one dimensional and lacked ooomph

"The ball came back loosely but James Hook was able to turn and gather off the floor then waltz clean through the Quins midfield, sending Meakes to the posts"

"but Hook and Meakes combined again, this time to send Charlie Staples into the corner."

or Priestland???

Sorry to keep banging such an obvious drum, but maybe, maybe, the obvious just might get through.

We cannot afford to waste such a talent behind based on idiot Johnson's discredited quote and other vague half-baked criticisms.

You are now inventing reasons why Hooky isn't picked.

I am a Hook fan, have been since he was a kid, and even I wouldn't pick him at 10 for Wales. I might have him on the Bench as a utility back....................... but thats about it.

1/2P was 100% 13pts kicking yesterday and playing well but just before 1/2 time he shipped a bloody big tackle ... fair but a bone cruncher .. didn't appear second half and may have a shoulder injury ...

He really is getting thumped too regularly ...has haedly played for Toulon but has played very well ..and fills a big gap in their goal kicking capability...

He's like a second Kevin Morgan and that bravery is costing him playing time.
